The Workshop, and Malcolm Rose

Until 2023 almost all the concerts took place in the instrument-making workshop of Malcolm Rose and Karin Richter, in English’s Passage, Lewes. It was a unique, historic, characterful and much-loved performance space, that frequently allowed visiting artists to use expertly-constructed reproductions, as well as newly-restored original keyboards instruments. Sadly, after the untimely death of Malcolm Rose in late 2022, it was no longer available for concerts, and more recently Cliffe Church Hall, a lovely venue just a short stroll along from the workshop, and various churches in Lewes have been used.
For the 2025 season, concerts will be held at St. Michael’s, High St, Lewes, and at Cliffe Hall. Details at

Made in Italy
Baroque music for recorder, flute and harpsichord by Handel, Barsanti, Corelli Vivaldi and Scarlatti.

Sensational and dramatic, melodic and emotional, Italian Music took London by storm in 1711 with Handel's wildly successful opera, Rinaldo. The excitement and novelty of Corelli and Vivaldi's instrumental stylings were also catching on across the British Isles, attracting a cohort of Italian musicians to settle in Britain and, in the case of Francesco Barsanti, absorb Scots culture into his own music.
