š” I HATE greenwashing and will never pull the wool over your eyes by calling myself eco friendly!
šIām eco conscious and I do what I can to improve the impact of my work but itās a drop in the micro plastic filled ocean Iām afraid!
Hereās what I try to do to help š
šæNO floral foam! That green stuff used for flower arranging since the 50ās aināt never going to biodegrade! Never! It creates unmeasurable amounts of micro plastics and also contains cancer causing chemicals! Not for me thanks!
whatās more the āecoā alternativesā¦nah. Lots of those only partially break down so still not fully biodegradable and if they are they use immense amounts of energy, heat and water to create. Iāll just stick with sustainable British grown moss thanks, if it aināt broke, donāt fix it xx
ā»ļøRECYCLED/REPURPOSED OFFCUTS of wood and mdf boards for my funeral spray bases! Also not perfect but a darn site better than manufacturing a whole new product when I could just use something that would otherwise enter landfill!
My offcuts are upcycled from local carpenter Nick Godfrey
š§µ NATURAL TWINE to bind moss onto bases and frames and to tie my bouquets. Seems obvious but actually lots of florists use poly ribbon (plastic) or waterproof tape (plastic and chemical adhesives)
šGLASS BAUBLES AND NATURAL DECORATIONS, ok this is probs not great still because lots get chucked after Christmas but at least they wonāt pollute our oceans and soil in the same way as micro plastics.
šPAPER PACKAGING our bouquets are wrapped in simple paper and our gift boxes are lined with recyclable soft plastic bags if water is needed. We donāt send these out as standard, only when requested. No extra dyed tissue, lashings of cellophane or poly ribbons.
Hands up our ribbons are satin so they aināt great but as I understand it, lots of you like to keep them to re use so that makes me feel a bit better about our finishing touches.
š·BRITISH FLOWERS AND GREENERY when I can but I use ALOT of imported flowers. British blooms are only available seasonally and honestly theyāre expensive! Rightfully so but Trust me when I say you would not pay me their full worth at times.
