🎓 Last half-term, our Year 8 students enjoyed a visit to De Montfort University Leicester (DMU), where they took part in a full day of practical and interactive life skills activities.

Students developed key skills including teamwork, presentations and money management, while also learning more about university life and future opportunities. 💡👏

The impact of the visit was incredible:
✨ 100% of students said their understanding of university had increased by the end of the day
✨ 100% enjoyed both the activities and their visit to DMU
✨ 96% felt more confident about the possibility of going to university in the future
✨ 95% said the visit encouraged them to work hard in their studies and improved their understanding of budgeting and finances
✨ 86% finished the day with a positive view of university and felt it was a place for “people like me”

Before the visit, only 50% of students thought they may study at university in the future and 36% changed their mind after the experience and now do want to! 🌟

Medicine was the most popular subject area students were interested in exploring, and students shared some brilliant reflections on the day, including:
🗨️ “University will help me build knowledge”
🗨️ “Before today I had only heard about the cons like tuition but after today and seeing DMU I want to study”

A fantastic opportunity for our students to broaden their horizons and think positively about their futures! 🎉

Year 11 – If revision feels overwhelming… this is for you.

We all put things off…so how do you overcome procrastination?
You don’t need a perfect plan - just begin.

Start small. Start Now. Do just 10 minutes of one subject. If you give your brain a warm-up. Getting going will seem easier.

Set a 10-min timer right now ⏱️

Welcome back to all of our staff and students as we begin the final half-term of the academic year! 🌟

We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable May break and is feeling refreshed for the weeks ahead. There’s lots to look forward to this half-term, with exciting events, celebrations, trips and opportunities across the college.

Another special mention to our Year 11 students as they continue with their GCSE exams - keep working hard, believe in yourselves and remember to look after your wellbeing too. We’re proud of you all! 💙

Let’s make this final half-term a positive, successful and memorable one together.

No matter how warm it gets this half-term, the best place to go for a swim is your local swimming pool.

Swimming in open water might seem like a nice way to cool-off, but it can be very dangerous due to the water being colder and deeper than people expect, with hidden currents and objects beneath the surface.

Most accidental drownings in the UK don't happen on the coast or at sea, but inland - in rivers, canals and lakes. And sadly, they start happening more frequently at this time of year, with children, teenagers and young men at most risk.

Our crews are as prepared as they can be for water rescues - you can help them by not taking risks around open water. https://orlo.uk/0Gmjb
