This beautiful bride is Lara, we came about the design for her dress by pure chance, she had on a top which we literally just pulled the shoulders down to tale off but it creates this silhouette..... and there it was the top she had decided to have! We then worked on the skirt shape and again Lara tried on a skirt which had a draped front, we pulled that back and again she fell in love with the shape.
So the next time she came in, I had combined these 2 ideas into a dress and added in a longer train, we picked the fabric, a beautiful off white satin and the journey of the dress started!

It is so nice to design the dress alongside your bride, you both can see what it will look like and you can show each other new ideas and play with the style to finalise your dream design.

Beautiful bride Beth and her lovely husband Dave are the most wonderful people and it was my absolute pleasure to design and make Beth’s dress! She had the gorgeous one off Martha skirt and 2 bespoke tops to alter her look in the day.
The lovely Dave is an amazing videographer who will actually be filming our big day next year!

I truly thought that some people would be happy to have competition, as personally it makes you work harder to do better. I knew I was against the best of the best at the show but it only made me want it more. But when you hear criticism of your own work from people you have idolised it makes you doubt yourself and re think. What am I doing?! Am I deluded to think I could be the same as as you? As successful as you? So from being on a massive high.... I was soon at an absolute low. Doubting everything I had in my collections, to thinking am I worthy?! Can I do this? Or was it a big mistake to think I had a chance?!
There are a million trends out there and loads of fabric mills where people take inspo from and can be totally blissfully unaware some other designers are making something similar or using the same fabrics, it’s just life! It happens. It not intentional, it’s not malicious. It just is what it is. You could be just subconsciously doing it and only finding out when it’s too late and you have similar items in your collections. 🤦🏼‍♀️

So for the past year, I stepped back from the business. Got a full time job, still in the fashion industry! Couldn’t leave it totally!!!
I have recently, maybe due to lockdown, being furloughed, having time to think.... but I’ve found a new love for the sewing world again! Whether that’s wedding attire or just ready to wear fashion which I’ve been making for my friends. Even watching the Sewing Bee haha.

So..... with a new website coming, Katie Dell will have a new lease of life!
With brand new wedding dress designs in progress and an alternative collection being created, this is a very exciting time!!

This was a fabulous show to be part of and I put absolutely everything into it physically, emotionally and financially to really boost my little bridal business!! It was an absolute risk and at first I thought it had paid off.
⠀⠀
Lots of wonderful boutiques came over to my stand and said how amazing my work was and they’d be so interested in stocking me, what great style my designs were and it was to be honest very heartwarming to hear people actually liked my stuff!!!
Even though I didn’t take any orders I was extremely proud that I had such a good response and I was on the right track!

What I was not expecting was how fellow designers were. That they’d rather put you down then help you grow. I was no competition for some of the big top names, that had been around for years and years and really knew what they were doing. I was just starting out, all new to me, with zero clue of how it’d all turn out. A new venture into the wedding industry... a mystery! [ CONTINUED in next post.......]

So as some of you have been aware I have not been posting as much on here and the website is now under construction..... well I have decided to.. let’s say... have a rethink!

I’m going to be honest with you guys as to why I’ve gone a bit MIA!!
Truthfully I just lost my passion for this industry. It came about back back in March last year, I was super excited with the opportunity of showcasing at Brides The Show [ READ MORE in next post.........]
