Sitting in the evening light a little bowl of flowers left over from a bouquet made l during last weekends visit to flower fields in Cheshire. What a treat to be invited by a pal to spend a Sunday morning wandering through Carol’s fields, drooling over dahlias and revelling in her field full of fabulous foliages. The flowers here are a little worse for wear as I completely forgot to take a flower bucket and on the way home they tipped over 😳 A long drink when they got home revived most and this little bowl has bought me joy all week. 😊

I’ve not posted anything in a long while. We’ve had a pause and have made some big decisions. This will be our last year of growing flowers for sale as we’re planning to retire. The house and land is on the market and we’re looking forward to new adventures. So if you fancy a big old house with an established cutting garden in East Sussex then take a look at our listing with

Getting back into the swing of things after a long time away, with an urn for the Laughton Village Fete and Flower Festival today. A community event not a posh curated affair (nothing wrong with those either), with flowers arranged by children from the village school and local residents. Just joyous 🌸 celebration of flowers.

From the tunnel today. I’m away in Australia at the moment and I’m so grateful that my dear husband and are tending the plot. It’s a busy time of year with lots being hardened off and going into the ground, the care that’s needed especially as it appears to be unseasonably warm. It’s the same temperature here in Queensland in Autumn as it is back home 🤷‍♀️I’m looking forward to lots of flowers on my return.

All of a sudden, just as I’m about to go away, we’re surrounded by flowers 😊 I’m looking forward to going to the other side of the world and getting away from the worst hayfever season I’ve ever had. I thought it was just me but on this morning there was an article about there being exceptionally high levels tree pollen this year (particularly silver birch), which is causing suffering to those like me who are allergic to it. Something we’re going to have to get used to as yet another effect of climate change apparently😳

Sunshine, blue skies, some new pots and the first tiny flowers. I’m finally coming out of hibernation.

A very busy few weeks of Christmas workshops and markets are done and I was about to start concentrating on decorating the house ready for Australian visitors to arrive. But our boiler has broken and we’re not sure when it will be mended so we’re currently huddled into one room with borrowed heaters 🥶 A few out of hundreds of paper whites are flowering and the rest look like they’ll miss Christmas completely. I can never get the timing right. At least our tree will love the cold so should stay nice and fresh. But we’ll muddle through unlike those less fortunate. Please do think about giving to those charities who help those in need over this period.

The last of the dahlias. Time now for chrysanths and I’d really like a frost or two before getting the tulips in the ground. I’m hankering for a proper winter after such a drab summer. I may regret that wish come February😂

An autumnal bowlful. The leaves on the trees are changing and we’ve had our first real frost. The dahlias seem to have come through with just a little scorching, which has been the most positive thing in a week of illness, cancelled plans and replacing 4 year old carpet that has been savaged by moths 😭
