A little hello from me…

I've been a bit quiet lately, and if I'm honest, I've needed to take a little time away.

It's been a pretty miserable growing year with the drought and I've definitely had moments where I've felt completely fed up with the weather, flowers not growing properly and struggling to keep them alive!

On top of that, a couple of very good friends have been poorly, and our lovely older dog Anya is nearing the end of her life so I''ve not felt much like being on social media or pretending everything is wonderful.

I've not been completely idle, honest! and I have been keeping busy drying flowers for our workshops in Autumn and beyond. and to make into bunches, arrange into vases and Xmas projects which I'll share with you soon.

Thank you for still being here, especially if you've noticed I've been a bit absent.

I'll be back properly soon and will organise a couple of pick and arrange days before the weather turns and let you know what else is in the pioeline 🙂

Sorry we have been a little quiet but I must admit, this has been such a challenging year to grow natural, British, pesticide free flowers in. We are spending lots of extra hours each day watering just to keep things alive which is getting really tedious now, just me and my new best friend the hosepipe standing in a field or nearly passing out in the tropical heat of the polytunnel 🤣 ....but with every negative, there's always a positive ....at least I have worn shorts, have a tan, blonder hair and it seems to have been a brilliant year for butterflies and bees, there are tons of them all over the flowers which makes being out there for ages so much more bearable ...here are a few of my spots. Have you seen lots more butterflies than usual too? I hope so, they sure need a boost!

I didn't have time to do morning watering today but it was nice to have a bit of a cooler evening for it. We don't have an irrigation system (yet!) so everything is by hand and takes a while so there's a treats system in place for finishing it all .... and it's some Sangria tonight! 🤣

We have had a few plant casualties, mainly in the tunnel with a variety of brown crispy beauties but after turning the beds things are looking up. How are you getting on in your gardens, any casualties? ... and what do you treat yoursellf with after all the hard.work?

As I was snipping away earlier this morning these two cute little skipper butterflies caught my eye flying around together, enjoying the sunshine, sipping a bit of nectar and distracted by pretty flowers ....fresh natural flowers do have that effect even on us too! It's so nice to receive or gift a bunch to a friend for no other reason other than just because they're your bestie

We have lots of these butterflies at the farm as their fave grass is Yorkshire Fog which we have loads of - they lay their eggs near the leaf nodes. The skipper caterpillars hatch in late summer, eat their own eggshell and then go into hibernation within the grass sheath where they emerged, coming out again the following spring, ready to feed ....by leaving wilded areas this really does help us keep a thriving little population of these in the meadow. Best friends forever hey 💗💗

This looks AI-generated… but it’s a real flower 👀

I have kept looking at these buds for ages, they are fascinating, weird looking things which have really took their time to open, each stage seeming more alien than the last! Want to see this strange little fuzzy woven bud bloom?

This is Centaurea Americana AKA American Basket Flower ...which is reported to be great for drying too so freaky flower fun all year round. If you want something different you know where to come!

Nature really has the best designs ....and I do really love something different What do we all think, love it or hate it?
