Many of you know and love our tiger, but not everyone knows the story of how he came to be part of our village family.

This time last year he belonged to a brave young girl who had been diagnosed with leukemia. Through some incredibly difficult times, he was her companion, her comfort and a much-loved friend for several years, which was gifted to her from a shop on Blackpool front.

As the years passed and she grew older, she decided she was ready to let him go and advertised him for sale. The asking price was £30.

When we saw him, we instantly fell in love. We knew he was far too special to pass by and felt he would be right at home here in the village. In fact, we thought £30 was an absolute bargain, so we handed her mum £50 because we were that delighted to be giving him a new home.

Since then, our tiger has become part of the fabric of village life. He’s posed for countless photographs, welcomed visitors, made children smile and become a familiar face to so many of us.

But every time we look at him, we’re reminded that before he was our tiger, he was hers. He was loved, cherished and part of a story far bigger than any of us realised when we first brought him home.

We often think of that young girl and hope she knows just how much joy her tiger continues to bring to our community. What started as one little act of letting go has turned into years of smiles, conversations and happy memories for so many people.

He’s more than just a tiger to us. He’s a reminder of kindness, resilience and how special things can find their way into the hearts of an entire village.
