You may or may not have noticed that things have been a little quiet on our socials and only a sprinkle of events in the calendar, we’ve been on the down low growing a little human and will be taking the next couple of months a little slower. We’re not going anywhere and have lots of ideas for events for the final part of the year and onwards into 2027. We are also still very much taking bookings for venue hire and private events so please do get in touch!

These photographs belong to our neighbour Robert Parkinson and the woman in them is Beatrice, his mother, one of the only female lighthouse keepers on this stretch of the Lancashire coast.

Come rain or shine, she walked out to the two lighthouses at Cockersands every day to fill the lantern with paraffin oil and keep the light burning for ships crossing the bay. She had just one day off each year, Christmas Day.

These photographs are a reminder of the remarkable women who helped shape this coastline and community around us!

Plover Scar Lighthouse sits just along the coast from us at Patty’s Barn and is one of our favourite spots to walk out to, enjoy the sunsets and the changing landscape that the tides bring in and out.

Most people walk straight past this thinking it’s just a w**d and it will usually get sprayed without a second thought. But give it a closer look (and a sniff) and you’ll find it’s pineapple w**d, crush the flower heads and they smell exactly like fresh pineapple. It’s completely edible, beautiful steeped as a tea, and works SO well in cocktails! One of those little things growing right under our feet that most people never notice.

Patty’s Barn has eleven self-catering cottages and two cabins on a working farm near Cockerham , book one cottage for your family or multiple cottages if you are bringing a bigger group.

Everyone on the same site, nobody on top of each other.
On site you have a games room, a gym, a hot tub, a cold tub, wild swimming and walks straight from the farm gate. The Forest of Bowland is ten minutes away and the Lake District is under an hour. Lancashire is genuinely brilliant and most people do not realise how close they are to it.
