AT HOME, BEAUTIFULLY

There’s something incredibly special about getting married at home.

A garden you know and love. A house filled with family memories. A marquee that, for one weekend, becomes your own unique and extraordinary venue.

But creating a wedding at home is very different from arriving at an established venue. You’re essentially building your venue from the ground up.

The marquee is only the beginning. There’s power to consider, catering spaces, lighting, luxury loos, access, deliveries, wet-weather plans and the small matter of making sure everything works beautifully together.

And then there’s the design.
One of the things I love most about planning at-home weddings is taking a completely blank space and creating something that feels considered, personal and entirely right for the couple. From the position of the marquee and how guests move through the day, to the tables, flowers, lighting and those lovely details that make it unique to you.

This is where having an experienced marquee wedding planner really comes into its own. I’m there to think about the things you shouldn’t have to. To bring together the practical planning and the creative vision, manage suppliers and logistics, oversee the build and make sure that when the wedding day arrives, you’re not wondering where the generator is or whether the caterers have everything they need.

You can simply walk out of your front door and into your wedding.

THE VENUE SEARCH

Whilst I'm still very much in the middle of wedding season, I'm also beginning one of my favourite parts of planning with my newly engaged couples… the search for their perfect wedding venue.

This is the stage where the excitement really starts to build. Every venue visit brings new ideas, inspiration and possibilities, but it can also be difficult to know exactly what questions to ask beyond whether you simply love the look of a place.

That's why I've written a blog to help guide you through your venue viewings. It's packed with the questions I always encourage couples to ask, from what's included in the venue hire and supplier flexibility, to access times, catering facilities, styling restrictions and everything in between.

DAY TWO
The Ceremony

There are some moments in life that feel like a dream, but they are completely real. Our wedding day for me was one of them.

On the morning of our wedding, I got ready overlooking the sea with the wonderful Sylvia Sylwia Kunysz Makeup Artist and session stylist creating my hair and make-up. Bouquet in hand, beautifully created by Kirsty Kirsty Grieve | Wedding and Event Florist | Oxfordshire, I then walked along the very beach I’ve known and loved all my life, making my way to Priory Bay to marry my rock, Jerry. It was one of the most emotional walks I’ve ever taken.

My two incredible boys had the honour of giving me away, while our beautiful girls stood beside us as bridesmaids. Having all of our children and stepchildren together meant more than words can say.

As I arrived the fantastic band played Pretty Woman, I couldn’t stop smiling. Waiting for me at The Boathouse was Jerry, surrounded by the people who have loved, supported and encouraged us throughout our journey together.

Looking out across Priory Bay and seeing everyone we love gathered by the sea is a memory I’ll treasure forever. Having my brother conduct our ceremony and lead us through our vows made it even more personal, and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight.

My dress was another love story in itself. The moment I saw this beautiful vintage gown with Sophie I knew it was the one. The delicate lace was covered with flowers and birds, two things Jerry absolutely loves, so it felt like a little tribute to him before we’d even said “I do”. Sophie helped me add the finishing touch with a beautiful pink sash, and of course there were my bespoke pink bow shoes, which turned out to be surprisingly perfect for walking across the beach!

My gorgeous bouquet, along with the spectacular oversized paper flowers framing our ceremony, were created by the incredibly talented Kirsty Kirsty Grieve | Wedding and Event Florist | Oxfordshire They brought exactly the pink romantic feel I wanted to stand out on the beach.

And marrying my best friend, beside the sea we both love, will always be one of the happiest moments of my life.

OUR WEDDING WEEKEND
Day One
The Pink Party

After arriving by hovercraft in the afternoon , it was time for everyone to unpack their pink outfits and let the celebrations really begin.

We wanted our wedding to feel like a weekend away with our favourite people, not just one special day. So what better way to kick things off than with a pink-themed garden party overlooking the sea?

The only request ... wear pink.

And wow, did everyone embrace it! From bright pink suits and feathered headpieces to cowboy hats, floral jackets and fabulous dresses, our guests completely understood the assignment.

As everyone caught up over chilled rosé, Pimms and ice-cold Peroni, the best Paella was being cooked by the fabulous duo, Ed and Ana. The smell alone had everyone queuing for bowls before it was even ready!

As the sun began to set over the Solent, the legendary Derek Sandy, a true Isle of Wight favourite, had everyone singing, dancing and soaking up the atmosphere.

Looking around at all our family and friends together, with the sea behind them and the sun going down, we knew we’d planned exactly the weekend we’d dreamed of.

Looking back, this evening was one of the best decisions we made. It gave everyone the chance to relax, meet each other and settle into the weekend before the wedding day. By the time we walked onto the beach to get married the next afternoon, it already felt like we’d been celebrating together for days.

Tomorrow... the big day. On the beach for our ceremony and more wedding celebrations!

OUR WEDDING WEEKEND
Day One
The Hovercraft Arrival

Most weddings begin with guests arriving by car. Ours began with a hovercraft landing on a private beach.

When we started planning our wedding weekend on the Isle of Wight, we knew we wanted the journey to feel just as memorable as the wedding itself.

So instead of asking everyone to make their own way across the Solent, we chartered a Hovertravel hovercraft and brought all of our family and friends directly onto the sands of Priory Bay, the very beach where we'd be saying our vows the following day.

Seeing everyone step off the hovercraft, laughing, waving and taking in the view, was one of those once in a lifetime moments we'll never forget.

The team at Hovertravel were incredible from start to finish. They welcomed all of our guests aboard in Southsea before handing the microphone to my husband, Jerry, who became the "captain" for the crossing. He made all the onboard announcements while everyone tried to work out why the captain sounded so familiar! Then, halfway across the Solent, the real captain treated everyone to a few "houghnuts", Hovertravel's version of doughnuts, spinning the hovercraft in circles to the delight (and slight surprise!) of our guests. Once everyone arrived at Priory Bay, the team had transformed the beach into our own private landing point, guided everyone safely ashore and helped create an unforgettable start to our wedding weekend.

We'd also arranged for every suitcase to be collected straight from the hovercraft and delivered to each guest's hotel or accommodation. It meant everyone could simply kick off the weekend with a walk along the beach and soak up the sun and stunning location of Seaview and Priory Bay.

For us, this wasn't just a way of getting everyone to the Isle of Wight. It became the first event of the wedding weekend.

Looking back now, it set the tone perfectly for everything that followed.

Tomorrow, I'll share what happened next... our Pink Welcome Party, where everyone embraced the dress code and the celebrations really began.

AT HOME WEDDING

As a wedding planner, it’s always a privilege to help couples create their perfect wedding, and this wedding of L & R at home combined the tradition of a church ceremony with the personal touch of a marquee reception in the family garden.

This wasn’t just any wedding at home, it brought together thoughtful details and the family comforts in a place that already full of happy memories.

This is one of the magical moments of a wedding at home. Waking up in your own house or where you grew up, looking out the window and seeing the transformation happening. It creates anticipation and excitement that you simply don’t get when you’re getting ready in a hotel.

One of the biggest reasons couples choose to work with a wedding planner for an at-home marquee wedding is so their families can truly enjoy the day too.

With so many moving parts behind the scenes, from suppliers and set-up to timings and logistics, having someone there to quietly manage everything means parents, family and friends can relax, celebrate and be fully present rather than worrying about what needs doing next.

Especially at a family home, that peace of mind is invaluable.

THE DAY I MARRIED MY ROCK

This time last week, I married my rock at wedding number one - the intimate one. The planner became the bride!

Just our closest family, a beautiful summer's day, and the chance to pause and focus on what it was all really about.

The last week has been a whirlwind of love, laughter, celebration and lots of fun, but as I look back at these photographs, it's these quiet moments I am loving.

Standing beside the man who has loved me, supported me, encouraged me, believed in me, made me laugh, picked me up when life felt hard, celebrated the good times, tolerated my endless ideas, and been my rock through so many chapters of life, then finally calling him my husband, felt incredibly special.

A day I'll treasure forever - the calm before the crazy celebrations we had at the weekend.... more to follow!

ADVENTURE TO PRIORY

When you have a site visit and the tide is high…

With wedding season at Priory Bay about to begin, there have been a few slightly adventurous journeys along the beach for final site visits.

It really is one of the most special and unique wedding locations. Wildly beautiful, wonderfully relaxed, and full of logistical quirks that definitely keep you on your toes. But honestly, that’s all part of the magic for me. I do love a challenge, especially when the destination looks like this.

BLUEBELL DAYS

Getting a spring photo gallery back is always a bit of a moment. You remember the day, but seeing it properly with all the stunning light and colour is such a treat.

Hallcourt Farm was looking magical with their bluebells out in full force throughout the woodland, and the horse chestnut trees were just coming into bloom.

There is a short window in Spring where everything feels fresh and full of life, and you really can’t recreate it any other time of year. I always think spring weddings have a softness to them that’s hard to beat.

Hall Court Farm is such a special one for this. There’s so much variety across the space, woodland, open lawns and little pockets that feel quite private. It gives you a lot to work with, whether you’re keeping things relaxed or going all in on a bigger design.

I’ll share more from this one soon. There’s a lot to show.

BUDGET REALITY

Following on with some more marquee wedding truths!

A marquee wedding is often assumed to be a cheaper alternative to a venue.

I understand why. It can feel like you’re cutting out the middleman.

But once you do it properly and safely, that’s rarely the case. The infrastructure costs alone (flooring, lighting, generator hire, toilets, heating, furniture) add up very quickly. And that’s before catering, a field kitchen, refrigeration, and the actual dressing of the space.

The couples who come to me having already started booking suppliers, often discover there’s a significant gap between what they’ve budgeted and what the wedding will actually cost.

Starting with a realistic, line-by-line budget conversation at the very beginning saves a lot of painful reshuffling later on.
