Rev Ron Lancaster MBE, CChem, FRSC (1931 - 2026)

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Rev Ron Lancaster - one of the leading post-war pyrotechnicians and a key figure in the British fireworks industry. Ron was an Anglican Priest by vocation and a teacher by profession. Fireworks were, however, his passion. He founded Kimbolton Fireworks in 1964, initially to undertake research - but it evolved from modest beginnings to become one of the country's leading professional display companies. Kimbolton staged the display for Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in 1977, the 1995 VJ commemorations, 2012 Olympic Games, Hong-Kong handover celebrations and London New Year's Eve.

Ron was a mentor to Jubilee's MD, Chris Pearce. His encouragement and support enabled Chris to develop what was a 'hobby' into a functioning fireworks business, which evolved in a similar fashion to Kimbolton. Jubilee Fireworks would not be where it is today without Ron's support and guidance in the early years.

Ron passed away on 18th October at the age of 95, yet still retained a keen interest in fireworks to the end. Ron possessed that rare combination of academic expertise and entrepreneurial skill that enabled him navigate through the seismic changes in the British fireworks industry from the 1960s to the turn of the century. He was widely admired and respected and will be remembered with great affection. His contribution to the fireworks industry was without parallel and his legacy will last for years to come. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

**LAST CHANCE TO SAVE FIREWORKS**
Could this be the end of the fireworks we know and love?
The Government is consulting on changes that could, if proposals are fully implemented, restrict the sale of over 90% of the fireworks currently enjoyed by the public.
Large scale professional displays will, for now, be unaffected. But the outcome could dramatically change celebrations including Bonfire Night, Diwali, New Year and community & fundraising events. The impact on the fireworks industry as a whole could also be severe.
It only takes a few minutes to have your say — but you must respond by 7th October.
