What a Time to Be Proud of Hull
(1 minute read)
It has been an incredible time for sport in Hull, and the city has every reason to be proud.
Just last week, Hull City secured promotion to the Premier League after winning the Championship play-off final against Middlesbrough. The achievement has brought excitement across the city, with supporters looking forward to the opportunities and investment that Premier League football can bring. Promotion not only boosts the local economy but also shines a positive spotlight on Hull for the rest of the country to see.
And the sporting excitement doesn't stop there.
Today all eyes turn to Hull Kingston Rovers as they prepare to face Wigan in the Challenge Cup Final. Hull KR have enjoyed a remarkable period in their history, establishing themselves among the elite clubs in rugby league and giving their loyal supporters plenty to celebrate.
Sport has always been part of Hull's identity. Alongside football and rugby league, the city also has a proud ice hockey tradition. The Hull Seahawks continue to attract strong support and have helped keep the sport thriving in the city. Hull has produced talented players and passionate fans for decades, proving that sporting success in the city extends far beyond just football and rugby.
But Hull is much more than sport.
The city has long been rich in arts, culture, and music. Hull proudly held the title of UK City of Culture, a recognition that showcased the creativity, talent, and community spirit that have always existed here. From live music venues and theatres to galleries, museums, and festivals, Hull continues to offer a vibrant cultural scene that many people from outside the city often overlook.
Unfortunately, Hull has not always received fair treatment from some sections of the national media. Over the years, certain tabloids have focused on negative stereotypes and outdated perceptions. Yet those who live here know a very different reality. Hull is a city built on resilience, community spirit, creativity, and pride. Its people are welcoming, hardworking, and fiercely proud of where they come from.
The good points far outweigh the bad. Hull is affordable, friendly, rich in history, strong in culture, passionate about sport, and full of character. It is a city that continues to evolve while remaining true to its roots.
Hull's success stories are becoming impossible to ignore. Whether it is football, rugby league, ice hockey, music, culture, or community spirit, the city continues to prove people wrong and exceed expectations.
And if Hull KR can lift the Challenge Cup today the celebrations across the city will be unforgettable. Streets, pubs, homes, and communities will come together to celebrate another proud moment in Hull's sporting history.
What a year. What a week. And what a city
