Concert performances from some of the UK’s top chamber musicians in the beautiful parish churches of Adderbury and Deddington in North Oxfordshire.

31 Years of Music in Adderbury

North Oxfordshire-based musician Chris Windass founded the Music in Adderbury series in 1986. Chris worked as a freelasnce violinist with many of the UK’s leading ensembles, and chamber and symphony orchestras. However, his lifelong passion for chamber music had led to form his own group, the Adderbury Ensemble, and the Music in Adderbury series began as a way to br

ing the group’s music to audiences in his home village. Music in Adderbury concerts were originally held only in the glorious setting of the parish church in the beautiful North Oxfordshire village of Adderbury. Nowadays, though, some of each season’s series concerts take place at the equally stunning parish church of Adderbury’s neighbouring village, Deddington. As well as numerous concerts from the Adderbury Ensemble, these venues have witnessed performances from many other brilliant musicians and chamber ensembles from the UK and overseas. Some of the internationally celebrated soloists who have taken part in the Music in Adderbury series include Christopher Warren-Green; Robert Cohen; Bradley Creswick; Andrew Manze; Nigel North; Emily Beynon; Jane Atkins; Sian Edwards; Jonathan Kelly; Carolyn Sampson; and Andrew Haveron. Music in Adderbury concerts are held under the auspices of the Adderbury Concerts Trust, registered UK charity number 1095242. The Adderbury Ensemble are joined by truly remarkable pianist Viv McLean at Adderbury Parish Church for this Sunday evening’s MiA concert (September 21, 2025 at 18:00). They’ll be performing a chamber version of one of Chopin’s piano concertos with Viv, plus string quartets by Shostakovich and Mendelssohn. What a fantastic programme! We thought it was all over for our Spring/Summer season last month but we’ve managed to squeeze in one more concert in Deddington Church this Sunday July 13 at 18:00. This one features top British clarinettist Fiona Cross playing alongside keyboard supremo Viv McLean and the Adderbury Ensemble’s Chris Windass. They’ll be performing two marvellous trios for clarinet, viola and piano — one each from Bruch and Mozart — plus a lovely Brahms sonata for clarinet and piano. We return to Adderbury Parish Church this Sunday evening (June 8 at 18:00) to host a concert by the Sacconi Quartet, a critically acclaimed British string quartet renowned for their "fresh and imaginative approach" and passionate performances. The band have been performing together since 2001 and have garnered international recognition for their interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoire. On Sunday, they’ll be playing two great works — Smetana’s “From My Life” quartet plus one of Beethoven’s awe-inspiring and deeply moving late quartets.
