The small sunken area between our two air flow houses is a premium south-facing, sheltered spot where Dahlias, Salvias and Coleus jostle for space at this stage in the year.

The pots grouped at the end of the brick path are reaching their cumulative crescendo. Largely focused on the use of contrasting foliage rather than flowers it has worked really nicely this season as I like to try out different combinations each year. The arrangement includes:
Plectranthus, Sanguisorba, Athyrium, Dryopteris, Coleus, Heucherella, Anagalis, Erigeron and Agave.

Rather excited to be able to say that we’re going to be on Gardener’s World this Friday (28th) We were filmed last August on the most glorious, sunny day and had the best time talking about what we’re striving to do here in our corner of the Lake District. The crew were amazing and we can’t wait to see what they put together! BBC 2 at 8pm

Thanks so much to the The RHS and The Garden for featuring us this month. Beautifully written by Emma Bailey Emma Kendell who captured the spirit of what we’re endeavouring to achieve with the nursery. Thanks also to Sarah Cuttle Sarah Cuttle for the sumptuous pictures. We’re completely thrilled 🙏🌱

Musa sikkimensis ‘Bengal Tiger’ sits at the centre of this collection of various planted pots and old metal water tanks. The gorgeous striped markings to the leaf really help it to stand out against the other strongly coloured flowers and leaves. I don’t find it as resilient as the more widely grown Musa basjoo but once you have a decent sized plant it’s easier to cajole through the winter in our unheated greenhouse.

Beautiful, richly coloured trailing geranium that an elderly visitor to the nursery gave us earlier in the season. They have had to down size and were keen to find it a new home for ‘one of their favourites’ The original label had been lost but it came from Dibleys many years ago. It’ll have to come under cover in the winter but for now has loved being in the garden this summer in our newest area of the garden.

The Dahlias are having their moment everywhere in the nursery garden and this is a variety that I’m completely smitten with called ‘Liquid Desire’ it’s planted in our beloved, repurposed metal laundry bin (and yes it has wheels, it’s like something from Wallace and Grommit) with Verbena bonariensis and Selinum wallichianum.
