On 11 September, join us for Woman Grows Jeans 👖

In a country buying 70 million pairs a year, this extraordinary film journeys into our resilient ancestry to reclaim the care and agency key to regeneration. What unfolds is a tender, radical act of reconnection: to land, lineage, and the almost lost skills of the ‘more-than-human’ world.

Follow textile activist Justine Aldersey-Williams as she creates the UK’s only pair of homegrown jeans after 600 hours of dedicated work. The screening will be followed by a live panel discussion with Justine herself.

Back in 2005, after breakthrough success fronting 90s indie band Easyworld, David Ford launched his solo career with 'I Sincerely Apologise For All The Trouble I've Caused', an LP that was a far more personal, acoustic folk-pop effort. This album cemented Ford's reputation as one of the finest British singer-songwriters of his generation.

20 years after its release, including this standout track 'State of The Union', which is still a fan favourite to this day, he performs Brewery Arts on 16 October to play the album its entirety, with special guest performers as well as Ford’s renowned feats of multi-instrumentalism.

Our Story

Home to thought-provoking theatre, magic music, dramatic dance, side-splitting comedy and exciting exhibitions, the Brewery Arts Centre is the cultural hub of South Lakeland.

From humble beginnings in a disused brewhouse in the early 70s, The Brewery has grown into one of the North’s leading multi-arts venues with a year round-programme of quality arts and entertainment events.

The Brewery boasts mainstream and arthouse cinemas, real-ale pub, pizza restaurant, vibrant café and beautiful gardens making it Kendal’s number one entertainment destination.

The centre plays host to several major festivals during the year including the Freerange Comedy Festival, Kendal Mountain Festival and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
