Vow renewals hold such a special place in my heart as a celebrant. 🤍

They’re about celebrating everything you’ve grown through together. Milestone anniversaries, surviving life’s challenges, blending families, or simply wanting to say “I’d still choose you”. That’s why couples renew their vows.

As a celebrant, I create a ceremony that reflects *your* journey. The highs, the lessons, the laughter, the resilience. It can be intimate and private, or a full celebration with family and friends. There are no rules, just meaning.

Because sometimes love deserves to be honoured again… and again. ✨

What is “jumping the broom”? 🤔

Jumping the broom is an ancient handfasting-era tradition that has been practiced in various cultures, including Celtic and other pagan communities. In modern pagan weddings, it represents sweeping away the old, clearing past energies, and stepping together into a new life as a united couple.

The broom itself is symbolic:
🧹 It represents the home the couple will create
🧹 It signifies cleansing and protection
🧹 It marks the threshold between single life and married life

When the couple jumps over the broom — often placed at the entrance or altar, they are symbolically crossing a boundary. They leave behind what no longer serves them and leap forward into partnership, equality, and shared intention.

It’s a joyful, grounding moment in a ceremony. Full of symbolism, movement, and meaning.

As a celebrant, it’s always an honour to guide couples through rituals that feel authentic to their beliefs and their story. Traditions like this remind us that marriage is not just a legal act, but a spiritual and intentional step into a shared future.

Another one of my favourite poems is ‘Afterglow’.

“Afterglow” is a gentle and comforting poem frequently read at services to bring peace to grieving hearts. Its message is simple but powerful. Rather than focusing on sorrow, it encourages us to remember the light, laughter, and love the person brought into our lives.

The poem speaks of leaving an “afterglow of smiles” and asks loved ones not to dwell on tears, but to cherish shared moments and happy memories. It shifts the focus from loss to legacy. From endings to the warmth that remains.

It reminds us that while someone may no longer be physically present, the light they created continues to shine in the hearts of those they touched ❤️

🐶💍 Including Your Dog in Your Wedding? 10/10 Excellent Choice!

They’ve seen you in your pyjamas.
They’ve listened to every relationship rant.
They already think you’re married.
So of course your dog deserves a starring role on your wedding day.

Whether they’re:
🐾 Ring bearer (who may need bribing)
🐾 Flower dog (petals optional, drool guaranteed)
🐾 Best Dog / Maid of Honour in spirit
🐾 Or simply there for moral support and tail wags,
including your dog makes your ceremony even more you!

As a celebrant, I’m fully prepared for, paw prints on outfits, surprise barks during vows and guests saying “Aww” louder than the readings. And honestly? That’s part of the magic!

If your dog is family, they belong in your love story 🐾❤️
Let’s create a ceremony that includes everyone, fur, fluff and all!

💕 Love is in the Air! Happy Valentine’s Day!

As a celebrant, I absolutely love this day for what it really represents. Connection, intention and celebrating love in all its forms.

In the UK, Valentine’s Day isn’t just about chocolates and dinners, a huge 36% of Brits think February 14th is a good day to get engaged!

That’s not surprising, love feels bigger on a day dedicated to it! But whether it’s a proposal, a first I love you, or a promise to a partner or to your growing family, what matters most is the meaning behind your moment.

After a busy week, what better view to wake up to. Happy valentines weekend everyone ❤️

Thinking about when to get married goes far beyond calendars and venue availability, for many couples, the date itself holds symbolic power.

Whether you love the idea of numerology, seasonal milestones, spiritual alignment or simply a date that feels meant to be, there are some truly beautiful moments coming up in 2026 and 2027.

✨ Repeating & Symmetrical Dates – Dates like 22/02/26 and 12/12/26 carry balanced energy and visual harmony, often linked to partnership and unity.

✨ Numerology Favourites –
• 22/02/26 – lots of 2s can symbolise connection and cooperation.
• 06/06/26 – repeating 6s often represent love, family, harmony and nurturing.
• 09/09/26 – double 9s can signify completion, fulfilment and stepping into a new life.

✨ Celestial & Seasonal Dates –
• 21/06/26 & 21/06/27 – Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, perfect for celebrating light, growth and vitality.
• Equinox Days – 20/03/26 & 20/03/27 beautifully represent balance and equal beginnings.

✨ 2027 Special Days –
• 07/07/27 – Often seen as a “lucky” or spiritually intuitive date.
• 02/02/27 – Symmetrical, calm, and balanced. Meaningful for couples seeking partnership energy.

Of course, your perfect date should feel right to you, whether that’s based on spirituality, meaningful numbers, your shared history, or just a day that feels magical when you say it out loud.
If you’re curious about how to choose a date with deeper meaning, or want help weaving symbolism into your ceremony, I’d love to help! ✨

🌿 One of my favourite poems is “The Dash” by Linda Ellis.

It reminds us that what truly matters isn’t the dates on a gravestone, but the dash between them. That small line holds a whole lifetime of love, laughter, kindness, relationships and memories.

For those who are grieving, The Dash can be comforting. It gently shifts the focus from how a life ended to how it was lived, and the impact that person had on everyone who loved them. Their dash doesn’t disappear, it lives on in stories, memories and the love they leave behind.

As a celebrant, I see how powerful this reflection can be when remembering and honouring someone special.

Baby naming ceremonies are becoming a beautiful and meaningful way for families to welcome their child into the world, without religion, but full of love, intention and celebration.

Unlike traditional ceremonies, there are no rules. No scripts set in stone. Everything is written around your family, your journey and what you want to promise your child as they grow.

If you’re looking for a way to celebrate your baby that feels authentic, modern and deeply personal, a naming ceremony could be perfect for you!

If you’d like to chat about creating a ceremony that reflects your family, I’d love to hear from you 💛

🙋🏼‍♀️ A little bit about me!

Hi, I’m Felicity Mensah, a fully qualified and registered civil and family celebrant based in beautiful Brontë Country, West Yorkshire.

For over ten years, I’ve had the privilege of creating fun, relaxed, deeply personal ceremonies — from wedding blessings and vow renewals to baby naming celebrations and heartfelt goodbyes at funeral services.

I’m passionate about crafting ceremonies inspired by your story. Every ceremony I lead is as unique as the people at its heart, and I feel truly honoured to share in the joy, love and meaning of life’s most important moments.

As a mum of three and a proud animal lover, I bring plenty of life experience, warmth, humour and humility to everything I do. I love the countryside and the outdoors — equally at home in wellies or high heels — and I’m always happy to welcome your furry friends into your celebrations too.

No two days are ever the same, and meeting new people is the very best part of my work. If you’re looking for a celebrant who truly listens and creates a ceremony that feels authentic, meaningful and unmistakably you, I’d love to hear from you.

♥️ Have you heard of a handfasting ritual?

A handfasting ritual is one of those moments that often stays with people long after the ceremony has ended.

Traditionally, it involves gently binding hands together with ribbons or cords. Asimple, beautiful symbol of two lives being joined. Each tie can represent something meaningful: love, trust, family, friendship, the past you’ve shared and the future you’re choosing together.

People choose handfasting rituals for lots of reasons. Some love the history behind it, rooted in ancient traditions. Others are drawn to how visual and heartfelt it feels. A quiet pause where time seems to slow and everyone present can really see the commitment being made.

What I love most is that there are no rules. The colours, the words, the meaning, it can all be shaped to reflect you. Soft and romantic, earthy and natural, joyful and celebratory… it becomes part of your story.

A handfasting isn’t about being bound, it’s about choosing each other, freely and intentionally, in front of the people who matter most.
