Formerly the Stable Block since the 17th Century, this magnificent building became disused over time once the growth of motors began to take off, and horse with carriage was less used.

After a 2-year restoration period, with some of Yorkshire's most talented stonemasons, The Carriage House is now an elegant, atmospheric events space playing fine host to weddings, events and private parties.

C&H 💍

A beautiful wedding on the grounds of our Georgian estate for a very special couple. Our brides and grooms mean the world to us, and are more than clients. We are thrilled C&H were the very first couple to enjoy wedding celebrations in the newly restored Carriage House - a double celebration for the team here at Hotham Hall.

Col. Edward John Stracey, who had also taken the name Clitherow, lived in our Hall from 1869 until 1900.

In 1871, having just taken on the hall, Col. Edward actioned plans for a replacement service wing, likely drawn up by William Moseley. Construction began the following year. The service wing will have been buzzing with activity, housing the servants of the time. The glazed Victorian conservatory was added at the same time at the front of the hall, adorning and enhancing the front entrance.

In 1985, the conservatory was removed. The roof members from the conservatory were repurposed for the existing greenhouse.
