A very belated hello to 2023 👋🏼

Well.. it has been a WHILE! I genuinely do not know where the first quarter of the year has gone and how are we already in bloody March!?

I took quite a substantial step back from social media since the end of last year. 2022 was the busiest year that I’ve seen within my business and I really struggled with the demand of weddings, editing and admin that came with the madness of last year. I also really wanted to be able to finish up all galleries and edits from last year before heading into 2023. I am so incredibly grateful to be doing the job I am doing and consider my self so lucky to have such a wonderful job, however there is SO much that happens behind the scenes and as I am just one person with about ten different job titles, it can sometimes get too much and can get incredibly overwhelming. I found that with all of the editing and admin I was trying to keep up with, there was also the demand of being present on social media, Instagram pushing creators to make Reels just to be seen in their followers’ social media timelines etc. and I was finding that I was worrying about aesthetics and always having something interesting to say in my captions.. which actually is not the point of why I have and post to social media.

I LOVE sharing my work, connecting with my couples, being creative and making fun Reels, showcasing all of these wonderful weddings and workshops that I get to be a part of. I felt this immense sense of guilt when I wasn’t constantly present on Instagram which is why I took the last 3 months off of social media for my business so that I could take some breathing room, think about what it is that I want to post on Instagram going forward, and make some changes that will make Instagram a fun and creative space for my business again.

So I am back now, finally! I’ve actually felt so excited to post to Instagram again and I have had so many wonderful messages from my couples checking in with me which just means the absolute world. 2023 is looking like an AMAZING year and I cannot wait for the peak season to begin. I hope you have all had the most wonderful start to 2023 ✨

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to pop on here to chat about the change that is happening with engagement sessions from this year. Last year I saw so many wonderful couples wanting these pre-wedding sessions which was absolutely amazing, however I really struggled to fit these in around the manic wedding season and was finding that my wedding galleries were getting pushed back to the demand of the engagement sessions.

I still want to be able to offer these sessions to as many of my couples as possible, so I have come up with a booking system where I have allocated specific Sundays during the off-peak months of the year with locations and time slots. These locations are in Devon, Somerset and Dorset so there should be locations there for all of you but if there are any dates or locations that aren't suitable, please get in touch and I can have a look at adding some other options if needed. I will also be adding dates and more time slots depending on the demand for certain dates.

Hopefully this will allow me to keep my focus in peak season on weddings and editing, and then I can also be a lot more flexible during the off-peak seasons to capture lots of wonderful engagement sessions. I should also mention that these pre-wedding sessions are completely optional! You do not need to book a slot if you do not want to - I just wanted to keep all of you lovely lot in the loop.

Celebrating the LGBTQ+ community 365 days a year, not just for one month 🏳️‍🌈

The wedding industry has still got a long way to go in terms of inclusivity and representation - seeing wedding supplier directories and wedding magazines changing their logos and names to be pride related and seemingly LGBTQ+ inclusive, but then changing it back on the 1st July. Sticking a rainbow on your logo and suddenly posting LGBTQ+ couples and weddings on your socials for pride month. This is all tokenism and this is not progressive - we need to be inclusive to all of those in the LGBTQ+ community and show them love every day, week and month, not just one month a year. Let’s not buy into the pride marketing (which we all know will be gone by the end of the month), and donate to incredible LGBTQ+ charities and organisations instead who celebrate and support those in the LGBTQ+ community every single day of the year.

Let’s continue to celebrate incredible people, incredible love stories and incredible inclusive businesses, brands and communities. WE LOVE YOU ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Well I had the best email land in my inbox this morning..

I’ve been nominated for the Best Photographer category in the Muddy Stilettos Devon awards 2022! I am SO over the moon and haven’t stopped smiling all day.

THANK YOU to all of my wonderful couples - this is all down to you and your love and support. To be nominated for the Best Photographer category in Devon is just surreal and after a few crazy years this is just the loveliest little boost I needed.

I guess this is also a double post really from me as this lovely photo is from my wonderful day on Wednesday at the Love For All LGBTQ+ workshop! It is always so important to show all kinds of representation within the wedding industry, and I am always striving to show every kind of beautiful on my socials and website. The beautiful Jess and Jay were just the most gorgeous humans in the entire world and I cannot wait to share more pics from the workshop soon!

Have you ever seen a couple more excited on their wedding day?! The gorgeous Jess and Liam finally tied the knot yesterday at the wonderful and it was just the most glorious of days.

Also I drove a golf buggy for the first time - and I probably looked just as ecstatic as Liam when I did ✌🏼

Introducing ‘Let’s Tie the Knot’ Grove!

A plot of land in the Scottish Highlands where trees can be planted to help restore the Caledonian Forest and reintroduce incredible wildlife such as the Lynx, Red Squirrel and the Golden Eagle.

As a wedding photographer, it is inevitable that I will need to travel for my job, and in an effort to reduce my carbon footprint a tree will be planted in the name of each of my wonderful couples that tie the knot.

So from now, any of my couples that I’ve got booked in with me will have a tree planted dedicated to them in the Caledonian Forest, celebrating love one tree at a time. This is OUR grove - not just mine! We are all working together to give back to our wonderful planet and I cannot wait to watch our little patch grow.

I am currently in the process of giving my website a well needed Spring refresh and it will be ready to go tomorrow which is so incredibly exciting! There will be a page dedicated to our little grove and all the information you need to know. So many exciting things happening at the moment, and this is such a glorious step in the right direction x

Fiiiiiinally getting round to posting some pics from my time in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago! Well I definitely didn’t think I was going to be posting little old me on the gram today, but the wonderful Sophie Mort Photography sent me through a few snaps from our time in Barcelona and it’s been a little while since I’ve shown my face!

There’s definitely been an influx of followers and enquiries recently - you are all getting on the wedding planning game! It’s been amazing to get to know so many awesome new couples and hear all about your lovely weddings.

I’m currently trying to get some Barcelona edits ready as I’m sure you’re all dying to see the photos just as much as I am! It was such a wonderful and very much needed trip away, meeting some new friends and soaking in that glorious sun.

Next post will definitely be a Barcelona post so get ready! For now, I’ll leave you with my little cheesy grin ✌🏼

Just a quick update from me to say that I’ll be out of office from today until Saturday as I’m sapping up the warm Spanish sun in beautiful Barcelona, ready for a few fun-filled days with workshopsbylark! We will be out photographing some gorgeous couples and venues in the city and mountains and I cannot wait to share some gorgeous pics with you all soon!

But don’t worry, we won’t just be photographing out here, there’s also a lot of sangria to be had before we fly home on Friday 🍹
