And that’s a wrap for Baker & Burke… for a little while! 👨‍🍳✈️

It’s been another incredibly busy couple of weeks, including our second week providing catering for a wellness retreat and a fantastic private event BBQ for the team at iCandy World in Biggleswade. 🔥🍔🥗

A huge thank you to the iCandy team for having us back again — it’s always a pleasure catering for you and we really appreciate the continued support. 🙌

Now it’s time to try and switch off, recharge and enjoy a very well-earned break! ☀️😎

It won’t be quiet for long though…

When I’m back, it’s full speed ahead with plenty of corporate hospitality already booked in, a 50th wedding anniversary celebration, private events and lots more in the diary. 🍾🥂🍽️

🍽️ PRIVATE DINING IN HITCHIN 🍽️

Tonight, I had the pleasure of catering a two-course dinner for a lovely family of 16 in Hitchin.

The menu included:

🍅 Heritage tomato, basil and mozzarella salad
🥣 Homemade leek and potato soup with fresh bread
🍗 Pan-seared fillet of chicken served with fondant potato, seasonal vegetables and a mushroom and tarragon sauce
🐟 Pan-seared salmon with crushed new potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a lemon and dill sauce

I didn’t manage to take many photographs this evening—as a one-man team, my focus was firmly on preparing, cooking and serving every dish to the highest standard!

🌿 Well, that’s the wellness retreat complete — and what a fantastic week it has been!

We’ve had a brilliant time preparing and serving fresh, nourishing food throughout the retreat, helping guests feel fuelled, refreshed and well looked after. Now it’s time to reset and prepare to do it all again next week! 👨‍🍳✨

A special thank you to Laura Mitchell and George, our wonderful hosts at Shortmead House . Their hospitality has been fantastic, and the venue itself is something truly special.

👨‍🍳 FREELANCE CHEF REQUIRED – WELLNESS RETREAT, BIGGLESWADE

Baker & Burke Caterers is looking for a confident, experienced freelance chef to cover a relaxed wellness retreat in Biggleswade from 25–30 August 2026.

This is a great opportunity for a skilled chef who enjoys fresh, wholesome food and working independently in a calm retreat environment.

The role will include preparing:

🍳 Breakfasts – homemade smoothies, omelettes, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, crushed avocado and sourdough

🥣 Lunches – homemade soups, fresh fruit and light desserts

🍽️ Evening meals – dishes such as vegan and gluten-free lasagne, salmon, steak and fresh salads

🌿 Herbal teas and natural honey will also be available throughout the retreat.

Some days will require breakfast and lunch service, while others will include breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Approximate hours:

• Some days: 7:30am–7:00pm, although you will not be required continuously throughout the day
• Other days: 8:00am–4:00pm

All ingredients and stock will be purchased and ready for you. You must be comfortable working with limited kitchen equipment, managing your own preparation and washing up, and keeping the kitchen clean and organised.

You will deal directly with the client, so you must be professional, presentable, approachable and confident working independently. Experience with vegan and gluten-free food is important, along with a strong understanding of food hygiene and allergens.

Accommodation can be provided onsite if required in a bell tent, with shared toilet and shower facilities. The retreat is close to Biggleswade town centre.

This is a freelance, self-employed position. You will invoice Baker & Burke directly, with above-market pay available for the right chef.

🌿 DAY ONE OF OUR WELLNESS RETREAT CATERING 🌿

providing bespoke catering for a private wellness retreat in Bedfordshire.

Tonight’s focus was exactly what this week is all about — clean, fresh, nourishing food, using quality ingredients, simple flavours and careful presentation. 🌱

🍽️ Tonight’s Menu

🐟 55°C Fillet of Salmon
Creamed potato, cucumber, avocado & beetroot salad, finished with micro herbs, fresh lemon and extra virgin olive oil.

🍐 Vanilla & Cardamom Poached Pear
Summer berry coulis, toasted almonds and edible flowers.

The brief for this retreat is all about food that is gluten-free, light, fresh and easy to digest, without compromising on flavour or presentation.

And this is only Day One… 👨‍🍳

Over the coming days I’ll be creating breakfasts, smoothies, fresh fruit, nourishing lunches and evening meals specifically designed around the retreat and its guests.

🎉 WHAT A WEEK FOR BAKER & BURKE! 🎉

We’ve had a brilliant first week partnering with Co-op Stotfold through the FoodShare initiative. Every bit of surplus food that would otherwise have gone to waste has found a good home with people who can genuinely make use of it. ❤️♻️

The response from the community has been incredible—thank you to everyone who has liked, shared and helped spread the word!

I currently collect and redistribute the food voluntarily, in my own time, so I’d love to hear from anyone who could occasionally lend a hand. If you’re interested in volunteering, please WhatsApp me on 07904 253946. 🙌

I’m continuing to collect and redistribute surplus food through the Co-op FoodShare scheme, helping to ensure that perfectly good food reaches people in our community rather than going to waste. ♻️🥕🍞

Thank you to everyone who has liked, shared and supported the FoodShare posts so far. Please keep doing so — every share helps the food reach more people who may be able to make use of it.

I also realise I haven’t posted much recently about the catering side of Baker & Burke — mainly because we’ve been incredibly busy behind the scenes!

August is packed, and September is already looking very busy too. Alongside the community work, we continue to provide:
