STOP! what happened to April?
here's a little snippet of what we got up to in April....
F A B U L O U S wedding for C & G at Matfen Hall, my right hand florist Alix taking the lead on this beautiful wedding and assisted by Susie on the day to set up.
We welcomed the lovely Zoe to our weekly volunteer group at the walled garden - as well as superb pricking out skills guided by owa Chrissie and of course she bakes a SUPERB carrot cake 🥕 🍰 too!

We held our 6th tulip pick your own - yes 6th! we've been doing these lovely relaxed pick your own moments for 6 years now 🌷

Seed sowing eat sleep repeat

Pricking out....eat sleep repeat

We've almost finished the overdue projects at the walled garden thanks to Dave - The Border Weeder based in Redesdale.

We've planted snapdragons, orlaya, anenome, snaps, lissianthud, ranunculus, larkspur, corncockle, ammi, sweet williams and much more thanks to Sue my right hand gardener 💪

it started to get hot 🔥 and hotter and hotter as it always does in April so the daily dance of checking literally thousand of seedlings becomes a ritual....too much watering can rot the roots, too little puts the plants under stress and make the plant weak and susceptible to pest and disease so its a fine balance not to be rushed

delivered farewell flowers sympathy, happy birthday and anniversary bouquets across the North Tyne Valley from Wark to Bellingham, Kirkheaton, Kirkharle, Belsay, Capheaton, Cambo, Elsdon, Birtley, Chollerford, Barrasford and many more places in between. Delivered gorgeous weekly flowers to Matfen Hall and bouquets to NUFC.

collected thousands of baby plants as part of my buying group for fellow flower farmers from Worksop to Aberdeenshire, it also tops up my tank to catch up with the younger generations of upcoming professional flower farmers 🌱🪻

headed down to Birmingham to celebrate my mum's 80th...
the month ended somewhat different to what we were expecting....with a bit of a bang and a bump 😫

Its back.......for just 1 weekend only.....TULIP PICK YOUR OWN
This coming weekend starting Friday 10th April, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th.
Have you ever wondered what a fully productive working flower farm within a walled garden looks like? Now is your chance to not only see behind the walls but also pick your own tulips at the same time.
I have limited the number of spaces per time slot so that you can enjoy what I enjoy every day, a quiet peaceful environment and immerse yourself selecting gorgeous squeaky soil grown tulips - there is nothing like proper traditionally grown tulips in your hands.

Another Happy Anniversary for this time of year is to Mel and Michael.
They had originally planned a huge weekend wedding event which alas covid put paid to those. So from thousands of miles away they regrouped and pivoted did a complete about turn....and when they came back to the UK for Christmas they hot tailed it up to Gretna then straight back to Blackfriars Restaurant who opened the banqueting hall up especially for them for a family and friends filled night of joy love and laughter!
Can we do it all again?

Happy Anniversary Ruth and Andrew, you are now on level 4! A 4th year anniversary was traditionally celebrated with fruit and flowers which symbolise growth and more modern times with the addition of linen or silk to symbolise comfort and purity.
I have enjoyed a trip down memory lane tonight and looked through your rather lovely images from your amazing day.

What Ruth said:
Kate is an absolute dream to work with. Her communication throughout me planning my wedding was great and she really captured my vision. When I changed my colour scheme for the day fairly last minute she was on board straight away. We chose burgundy, blush and foliage to create a warm, festive feel and Kate nailed it! The flowers themselves were of impeccable quality and looked perfect all day, even the arrangement on the fireplace and the garland on our sweetheart table. My flowers have now gone away to be preserved because I loved them so much!

December 2021 was my busiest December in 9 years doing wedding flowers and I shall be sharing some of those too

Happy Anniversary to these two superb love bugs!
19th December 2020
To be asked to provide the flowers for any wedding is an honour and a privilege but when the custodians of one of the most iconic castles and landmarks in the United Kingdom - perhaps the world even.... was a massive moment for me a real pinch me moment in fact.
I remember the afternoon set up was incredibly tight for time but also very emotionally charged too and myself and Katherine who helped me with all the preparations (cleaning and polishing loads of hurricane and cylinder vases) were shedding a tear as the ceremony took place.
This was the only event where real candles were allowed to be used anywhere on the premises since they were banned for historical preservation reasons.
Ivy was cut from the hill the castle stands on and used to create a curtain of ivy at one end of the Kings Hall and at the steps to the Cross Hall armfuls of ivy was used along with British grown white orchids and urns of paperwhites grown by me mixed in with loads and loads of candles.... British mistletoe hung with luxurious red satin ribbon too, it was just breath-taking.
Not to forget this took place under strict covid regulations for gatherings of people and we all had to wear masks too...
