Nestled within the breathtaking Herefordshire countryside Dewsall Court offers 12 acres of beautiful gardens and grounds, an ancient Church, The Wainhouse a modern barn conversion as well as luxurious accommodation, allowing each couple to make their wedding their own. The Estate has a rich history dating back to 1644 when the main house was built and became the birthplace of Dukes, welcomed famous poets and composers and stored important works of art during the war. After falling into disrepair the current owners lovingly spent 10 years restoring it, thoughtfully combining the old with the new. Couples can host up to 170 guests seated for dinner in the stunning barn and up to 27 guests in the luxurious bedrooms, but the potential is endless. Peter's Field Notes | July

If you have visited Dewsall, you'll have been witness to our beautiful surroundings. Peter, one of our groundskeepers has gathered his written and visual notes from the month of July to give a round up of happenings.

"What a contrast we now have, compared to the lush and prolific growth of spring. High temperatures have ushered in a dry and arid scene. The soil is cracked and the mower kicks up a dust storm.

But life will return. The grounds secret is the tough, gnarly roots below, and the ton of seeds that lie in wait. A tiny bud of green hides deep within, ready to explode into action the minute rain returns. Before we know it the stream will flow and the landscape will change again after a period of high temperatures and no rain fall.

Hedgehogs were seen out in our gardens in daylight, which is quite unusual. The lack of snails and moisture-loving invertebrates has forced our little friends to search further for food. So we're keeping bird baths filled and placing troughs of water around the flower beds. Small gestures make all the difference and we carry this through everything we do here at Dewsall.

Tucked away in a corner of the formal gardens, eased in a gap in the herbaceous border, there are brick steps leading down into a little plot of magic.

Many years before, when Dewsall was still a private dwelling, a proposal took place amongst the hostas but the real romance lies now amongst the mophead Hydrangeas which are at their very best right now and photographers over the years have often immortalised their couples in this secret spot of the garden surrounded by the best of nature!

Thank you to Joe and Pete who build frames to hold them in shape as they grow and thank you to the couples and photographers for letting us share with you some of our favourite photographs of this spot in bloom.
