Worryingly weā€™re seeing an increase in the numbers of start up teepee companies using homemade unsafe , untested tents . Including multiple ā€œBusinesses ā€œ for sale locally on marketplace.

How to spot one
1. Frames will be homemade with screws or dowels , built with softwood available from any diy store . They wonā€™t be tested for collapsibility, fire safety and will be chemically treated with toxic wood preservative not safe for childrens
Play . There will be no manufacturing stamp or CE /UKCA testing mark .
2 . Covers will be loose fitting with loops or ties which could be a strangulation risk . Covers will have no manufacturing label may have copyrighted designs most likely made from patterned duvet covers .
3 . Sharp edges on frames and not built to ce tested specifications .

Homemade tents are dangerous and illegal to hire to the public any public liability insurance will be invalid without the testing paperwork .
Illegal hirers can be reported to trading standards .

Not all Castles are suitable for hiring out!

Did you know the inflatables that are used for commercial purposes i.e. hiring out need to meet required BSEN safety standards

Toy castles that you can buy online or in shops for use at home ARE NOT suitable to be hired out as they would not Meet the BSEN standard .

How do we tell which is suitable?

Hopefully the picture below will help you to see the difference

Brands such as Happy Hop, Bestway, Happy Bounce are meant for home use only and are not suitable for hiring out they cannot be tested or insured .

Usually the price to hire will also be an indicator too. Something found on marketplace for Ā£25- Ā£50
is unlikely to have annual safety tests, public liability insurance or be suitable for commercial use am certainly would not cover other business related overheads such as storage, delivery, installation, wages etc

Please donā€™t risk the safety of your child or other peoples children who may be guests at your celebrations
