We’re in full bed prep zone and the moment, and the cover crops have worked seriously hard this winter! With over 40 days of consecutive rain this year, they kept our soil protected & provide valuable nutrients and organic matter for the Spring season ahead. And don’t forget habitat for beneficial insects! We sowed these mix (phacelia mustard and radish) in early October which gave us the protection and biodiversity over winter and now we’re mulching and turning them in to get the beds ready in this block for our overwintered seedlings. Shout out to the Hayterette OG mulch mower, from the 70’s and still the best green manure mulching machine you’ve ever seen 🦖

Our dried flowers keep us going through the dark months, beyond the Christmas wreath season, and back into spring weddings and events. It’s cool when the seasons and crops overlap.
We’re already sowing this years seeds now so it’s a nice time to look back on all the crowns and combs and buttonholes we made last year.

This years Dahlias have survived everything.
For the first time we undersowed all our Dahlias (and other annuals) with organic trefoil/ white clover mix (see last photo) which kept the soil beautifully covered and healthy throughout this dry summer and managing the heavy Autumn rains. This also means there’s all that extra goodness going back into the soil after we lift and divide our Dahlias soon.

Last of our deliveries and weddings this week are full of these beauties before we move our season into autumn and winter prep 💤
