Controversial opinion…
“Wedding dress alterations are really expensive.”

Last year I worked on around 50 wedding dresses,
each one taking an average of 12 hours from enquiries and fittings to steaming and (a lot of) sewing.

The average cost? £450–£500, or roughly £40 an hour,
which has to cover everything from machinery, tools and materials to insurance, websites and, finally, a salary.

For context, my roofer charges £60/hr, my hairdresser £70/hr, and my mechanic £50/hr.

Bridal seamstresses train for years to perfect this craft. We don’t just sew, we tailor and refine your dress until it feels completely yours.

Expensive? Maybe. Worth it? Absolutely. Every single stitch.

✨Suzanne Neville gown for sale✨

One of my brides is selling this exquisite Suzanne Neville Clara gown. She had a change of heart and decided part way through alterations that it wasn’t for her and chose a different dress for her wedding.

This is made from a luxe Italian crepe and is a figure hugging style. These gowns are known for their amazing internal corsetry. It was a shop sample but has never been worn properly and has been cleaned.

I started alterations, including a bust dart and strap lift, but did not get to the point of removing any fabric, so it is essentially unaltered. The sides were let out but have been returned to the original. No hems have been altered yet.

✨Bespoke party dress ✨
It’s not often we get repeat clients in bridal work (thankfully!!) so when one of my brides comes back for another outfit for their little one it’s especially lovely. I made Amy’s bespoke bridal jacket a few years ago, and now a party dress for her daughter.
Little O had a very specific brief: “it needs to be very twirly and bright green like Mummy’s dress”.
Perfectly modelled by O and her mum, and also with fitting assistance from my own daughter demonstrating maximum twirlability!!
