Having worked in the motor industry for over 40 years, when the opportunity to semi retire and do something completely different came along, I decided to go for a better work/life balance and make the change!
But what to do? I had seen celebrants in action at family funerals, and had delivered a eulogy myself at one of those funerals. Then an old friend mentioned that someone he knew had just started as a celebrant, he thought I would be good at it and I should consider it as a new venture!
The more I researched what a celebrant does and can do, the more I thought yes what a wonderful vocation and yes I would love to do that.
A celebrant basically helps people celebrate love, whether that be performing a wedding ceremony or vow renewal, delivering a celebration of life for a loved one or a naming ceremony for a new arrival, it is a celebration of love.
So having decided that being a celebrant was definitely for me, next on the agenda was to learn how to do it well and get some training. The ICPC (The International College of Professional Celebrants) looked to offer the best course and I booked, and spent a lifechanging week at the beautiful High Trenhouse in North Yorkshire in August last year, with a wonderful cohort of fellow students, and 2 incredible and inspiring trainers. Stuart Atherton and Mike Warren Celebrant.
So fast forward to today and I am finally launching my new vocation, delayed due to house moving and finishing full time work timing issues, but raring to go now.
Watch this space for updates on what I am doing and if you have a ceremony that you would like to do a little differently to the norm, let me know, I can help.
