I used to love the sight of cheerful balloons.

But this is the 4th time I've found them in my pasture in the past couple of years.

I've been more fortunate than other people I know who have lost their donkey or their sheep to somebody's "good idea".

Releasing balloons does not take a message to heaven. It does not carry well wishes after graduation. Balloons in the sky do not celebrate your wedding for you.

They kill things. Period.

What goes up must come down and very often it comes down where baby horses live or baby ducks swim.

Do better than your own brief moment of watching that colorful death bag rise.

Plant a tree, watch it grow towards the sky. Paint a rock. Put up a sign. Ring bells.

But please have compassion and do not let go of that balloon.
