We were delighted to host the Cowes–Deauville Race here at the Royal Southern Yacht Club.

Ahead of the start, we welcomed race entrants and club members for an evening BBQ. We also hosted the french briefing for the race in our function room. This event bought everyone together to celebrate and enjoy the atmosphere before the challenge ahead.

This morning competitors set off from The Royal Southern Yacht Club to the start line in Cowes, where they will begin their journey across the Channel. We wish all crews the very best of luck for the race. ⛵️☀️

The Cruising season is now in full swing, with excellent events so far, and a full programme for the rest of the year.

The start of the season attracted 90 members to the Cruiser Supper to hear about the 2026 Season. So far, we have had 40 boats and 125 members participate in the sailing events. Over the bank holiday 10 yachts and members are heading to Cherbourg. Our next local event is the ever-popular rally and BBQ at Bembridge, June 3rd to 5th. We have planned a flotilla trip to Greece in September.

The aim is to provide a variety of events that suit members’ cruising needs. It is the opportunity to join club members on the water and socially, away from the club. Anyone with a boat can head off for great sailing, but our events provide the chance to share the pleasure with other members. Our events will typically have an evening pontoon party for a get-together, and meals ashore or barbeques. Those attending are also free to make their own arrangements.

All the event details are on the Club website. Please take a look and join us around the Solent and beyond.

We were delighted to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Wetwheels.

In 2016, the Club raised the funds to purchase and commission Wetwheels Hamble. Since then, the boat and its dedicated volunteers have enabled many thousands of people of all ages and abilities to experience the joy of being on the water — an opportunity that would otherwise not have been possible for many.

Wetwheels enjoyed a wonderful afternoon receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service from the Lord-Lieutenant, Nigel Atkinson. We were also proud to see one of our long-standing members, Michael Norton, recognised for his dedication to Wetwheels.

Pictured with the Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore (House), Director of Wetwheels Hamble, and the Lord-Lieutenant, Nigel Atkinson.

It was a fantastic occasion, proudly hosted at the Royal Southern Yacht Club.
