If a countryside barn wedding is what you keep coming back to, Blackstock Country Estate might just be the one. Set in 70 acres near Hellingly in East Sussex, we have two beautifully restored barns, the whole estate to yourselves for the day, in-house catering and accommodation on site.

Your ceremony takes place in the 16th century Tudor Barn, your wedding breakfast is served in the Granary, and everyone heads back to the Tudor Barn for the evening reception and dancing. We sit centrally between Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne and Brighton, with an easy reach from London.

Blackstock Estate gives you a lot more than one backdrop. Here's where the camera goes on your wedding day:

- The Tudor Barn courtyard and terrace, looking out across the Cuckmere valley, with horses and llamas often drifting into shot behind you.
- The Granary's mezzanine floor, for that view down over the whole barn and your dance floor.
- Our two lakes and the scented wedding garden, for portraits away from your guests.
- The wider 70 acres and the South Downs beyond, for the big landscape shots that make an album.
- Inside the Tudor Barn under the antique cartwheel chandeliers and ancient oak timbers, where the light does most of the work for you.

And keep an eye out for the alpacas and rheas. Some of the best photos we've seen weren't planned at all.

Meet Maria Szekelyhidi of Ebourne Images, a Sussex wedding photographer based in Eastbourne, just up the road from us in Hellingly.

Maria has photographed several weddings at Blackstock Estate now, across different seasons, and she keeps coming back. Her words:

"I love coming back to this charming venue time after time. Be it spring, summer or winter. The lovingly restored barns and the breathtaking scenery are always a guarantee for your picture-perfect photos with incredible views over the South Downs."

Our onsite bridal suite and makeup room give you and your closest family and bridesmaids somewhere private and comfortable to get ready together, away from the noise of the rest of the day.

Soft lighting, comfortable seating, and every detail thought through so it feels calm rather than chaotic.

Bring your own hair stylist and makeup artist, or do it yourselves. That choice is entirely yours.

Our in-house catering team will serve breakfast up there too, from a spread of pastries to a full English, made with locally sourced ingredients. You'll want it. It's a long day.

Whether you want a peaceful morning or a loud one with music and a couple of glasses of something bubbly, this is where your wedding day starts.

Late spring is a brilliant season to book at Blackstock Country Estate. Warm enough for welcome drinks and canapés out on the courtyard, long enough in the evening for portraits down by the lakes, and the 70 acres are as green as they get.

Booking a private viewing is how you get the full picture. Your wedding co-ordinator walks you round the Tudor Barn, The Granary, the courtyards, the lakes and the onsite accommodation, answering every question as you go.

Fair warning: our alpacas and rheas have a habit of showing up mid-tour.

The same co-ordinator then stays with you through the whole planning process, and the team are on hand seven days a week for timings, dietary requirements, decoration questions, or just a chat about how it's all coming together.

Guests forget the table plan. They never forget the food 🍽️

Catering at Blackstock Estate is handled in-house by our own team, Circa Events, so your menu gets built around your taste, your budget and your theme rather than pulled off a fixed list.

Canapés, three and four course wedding breakfasts, whole Sussex roast pig, BBQ sharing feasts, pizza vans, champagne afternoon tea: the chefs use the finest ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible.

The front of house team are friendly and attentive, and look after your guests all night long.

Sandstone floors, exposed beams, and a mezzanine made for photos looking down on your dance floor 📸

A vaulted exposed-beam ceiling runs the length of it, with antique cartwheel chandeliers giving off that soft ambient light everyone comments on.

Floor to ceiling glazed barn windows open straight onto the landscaped courtyard, so guests can step outside for a drink and take in the East Sussex countryside whenever they fancy.

The large mezzanine floor overlooks the main barn. Couples use it as a relaxed seating area, a home for the photo booth, or purely for the photos you can get from up there.

Already set on another venue for your ceremony? The Granary works as a reception-only option too, with in-house catering, an open bar and access to both barns and the grounds included. Plenty of couples marry elsewhere and celebrate here.

Why say "I do" at midday when you could say it as the sun goes down? 🌅

Our Twilight Weddings are built for couples who want an intimate golden hour ceremony without the full day price tag.

Your ceremony starts from 4pm in the Tudor Barn, with guests arriving an hour or so beforehand. The Tudor Barn and courtyard are yours until 11pm, or midnight for a small supplement.

What's included:
- Use of the Tudor Barn and grounds
- 2 glasses of prosecco or bottled beer per person
- A selection of 3 canapés per person
- One choice from our evening buffet menu (hog roast, fajita bar, burger stall, hot dogs, bacon rolls or a buffet spread)
- Use of the makeup room from 11am on your wedding morning

2026 prices start at £5,450 for 50 guests on midweek dates (Monday to Thursday), with additional guests at £32.95 plus VAT per person.
