Summerheath Hall

Summerheath Hall Summerheath Hall is a community hall in the centre of Hailsham in East Sussex. The committee meets every three months.

Originally constructed in 1926, Summerheath Hall has been a community facility since 1959. The hall is run by a management committee comprising 3 elected members, 8 representative members (hirers) and 3 co-opted members of the public. We welcome new ideas and value enthusiasm from members and volunteers, new and old.

Celebrating

The first record of a permanent building on the Summerheath Road site is in 1926, although the land had several owners in the 35 years previous.

The property was acquired in May 1926 for the intended construction of a Labour Hall with the financial assistance of the Hastings Permanent Building Society.

The Labour Party used the hall for 33 years. In September 1959, ownership of the now renamed Summerheath Hall passed to trustees for the sum of £2100 to be used "as a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of Hailsham with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants".

An early aerial photograph of Green Brothers Factory and Summerheath Road shows the empty plot with a single track across the scrub, joining Summerheath Road to the twitten behind - an obvious shortcut when the plot was empty.

Summerheath Hall is a registered charity and run by a Management committee and its trustees.
