Today has been one of those days that I really struggle with.
I haven’t been well, and for once, my body has won the argument.
I wasn’t able to do our Sunday lunches at Gringley today, and I can’t even explain the amount of guilt that comes with that when you’re self-employed.
When you run your own business, there isn’t always someone waiting in the wings to take over. There’s no easy “I’m not well today” option. You’re the person people are expecting to see. You’re the one who has made the plans, bought the food, prepped the food, organised everything and promised to be there.
And when you don’t turn up, even when you physically can’t, your mind still tells you that you should have.
I think so many business owners will understand this.
We’re so used to putting our minds over matter.
Tired? Keep going.
Stressed? Keep going.
Not feeling great? Keep going.
Because there’s always something that needs doing.
But sometimes your body says NO before your mind is willing to accept it.
And today, mine did.
So now I’m sat here thinking about all the Sunday veg prep we’ve got left. Food that was bought with a plan. Food that was prepared with a purpose.
And we have a couple of choices.
We could put together some discounted Sunday lunches for takeaway tomorrow and try to make something positive from a difficult day.
Or we could take the food to the food bank and make sure it goes towards helping someone who needs it.
What do you guys recommend?
Because today wasn’t a failure.
I didn’t let anyone down intentionally. I didn’t choose not to work. I listened to my body when it told me that I couldn’t.
That’s something I’m still learning to do.
When you’re an entrepreneur, your business can feel like your whole world. You pour your heart, your time, your money, your energy and sometimes your entire identity into it.
But what good is the business if you completely run yourself into the ground?
Maybe sometimes the bravest thing you can do isn’t to push through.
Maybe it’s to stop.
To rest.
To admit you’re not okay.
And to accept that you’re human before you’re a business owner.
Tomorrow is another day. ❤️
