Brian and Barbara first met almost 60 years ago.

Their story didn’t begin as a romance. It began with friendship and family.

Barbara and Brian’s late wife, Margaret, met at primary school. Later, both families became close, sharing holidays, visits and countless memories.

Years later, life changed. Brian and Barbara both lost their partners within months of each other. Despite being 450 miles away, Brian rang Barbara often. He listened, encouraged her, and helped her through the hardest days.

More than a year later, a trip to Arran changed everything.

After nearly 60 years of platonic friendship, three days of talking brought something neither of them had expected: a deep affection, impossible to ignore.

Soon, the calls became longer. The distance between Reigate and Ayr felt smaller. They realised they wanted to be together.

In 2024, they travelled between their respective homes, passing Gretna Green every time. So, when they decided to marry, the answer felt natural.

After six decades of friendship, two lives fully lived, deep loss and one unexpected spark, Brian and Barbara came to Gretna Green to forge a new bond.

Marius and Ursula’s story began when they both worked at Siemens.

Marius borrowed a travel plan for Zagreb from Ursula. He accidentally destroyed it, then apologised with a cup of vending machine cocoa.

He says it was terrible.

But something sparked.

A year later, they were married.

Twenty-eight years on, they’ve gathered the kind of stories that only come from a life truly shared. Nearly missing their own wedding because they were playing PlayStation. Renewing their vows in the Florida Keys in flip-flops and Hawaiian shirts. Forgetting anniversaries, then agreeing that one promise was never enough anyway.

During their handfasting at Gretna Green, a song began to play. It was written by Marius as a surprise for Ursula.

Their outfits were chosen with care too, created and adapted back home as a mark of respect for Scotland.

Twenty-eight years of choosing each other.

Here’s to many more. 💍✨

The big day 🤍

Yesterday, we shared a little of Kiki and Keeley’s build-up to the big day, from a few questions to a buried sausage for good luck.

Today, we got the moment it was all leading to.

Their wedding day at Gretna Green, surrounded by the people closest to them, full of love, laughter, and their two Westies right there as part of the story.
