✨️I'm reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert yet again, I absolutely love this book, it speaks my language. She describes ideas as "Disembodied energetic lifeforms" and I couldn't agree more!
Inspiration is a form of enchantment, an idea lands and I feel excited, my pulse races, sometimes I get goose-bumps, sweaty palms, my heart races too when I know I'm onto something amazing. They don't always play by the rules though, these ideas, sometimes they have complete disregard for the deadlines that I've given my customer.
I've been working on a new Steampunk Fairy, omg she's a beauty! When the client contacted me about a commission, she had already been visited by the idea, and as I read the creative details of her vision, the enchantment entered me - I connected with her vision, her excitement and the Magic that this little Fairy possessed. We had a slow start as the individual elements came to me, one by one. Luckily I had given my my client a rough idea of when the Fairy would be completed.
I feverishly started working on the project, trusting my intuition to lead the way, whilst checking in with the idea itself to make sure we were on the same page. On occasion the idea took a day off, without permission I may add, and I had to down tools and do something else until the idea was ready to get back to work. It can be a challenging collaboration but I wouldn't have it any other way. I've learnt that I can't bully an idea, they are as stubborn as me! Lol
I've included all the elements that my client requested and just as I thought that we were coming to the end of our creative journey, an additional, magical element rushed in demanding to be included in the project. After interviewing the idea, and giving it a thorough grilling, gestapo style, to make sure that it was completely aligned and committed to the project, then we agreed to create Magic together.
I can't wait for Wendy to take delivery of Aetheria (the name that she gave me) it has been an absolute joy to breath life into this gorgeous Fairy. I feel so blessed to work with clients like Wendy, to collaborate with passion and purpose on these enchanted, creative adventures. Happy days!
