As we’re fast approaching Taffeta & Lace’s 41st birthday, we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane and share where it all began. 🤍

It all started in 1983 when my good friend Christina asked me to make her wedding dress. After finishing her gown, I placed a small advert in The Citizen newspaper, and before long I was creating wedding dresses for brides from home.🏡

As my little business grew, I quickly ran out of space. So, in 1985, I took a leap of faith and opened the doors to Taffeta & Lace 🫶

Nearly 41 years later, we’re still doing what we love. Helping brides find the dress for one of the most special days of their lives. We couldn’t have done it without all of our wonderful brides, and we’re so grateful to every one of you who’s been part of our journey 👰‍♀️💐

✨ Bridal Tip: Send this to Your Maid of Honour!💍

Your MOH has one very important job on the wedding morning—helping you into your dress. These little details make all the difference!

🤍 Before fastening the dress, make sure it’s sitting exactly where it should. Check the waistline, neckline and straps are all in the correct position before doing up the zip or buttons. If possible, get ready in front of a full-length mirror—it’s much easier to check the overall fit and the length of the dress is often a great indicator that it’s sitting exactly where it should.

🤍 If it’s a satin dress, wear clean white cotton gloves to help avoid fingerprints, makeup marks and snagging the delicate fabric.

🧶 Button-up dress? Pack a small crochet hook! It’s a bridal stylist’s secret for fastening delicate button loops quickly and safely, without putting unnecessary strain on them.

🤍 Zip or button the dress up slowly. Never force it—make small adjustments as you go for the best fit.

🤍 As the dress is being fastened, gently smooth the bride’s back. This helps the dress sit beautifully against the body, creating a smooth, seamless silhouette.

🤍 Finish with one final check in the mirror before the bride walks out the door.

Our story began in 1985, when Jill opened the boutique after making a wedding dress for a friend. More than 40 years later, she’s still helping brides find the one.

Over the years, we’ve been honoured to dress not only brides, but also their daughters—and now even their granddaughters for prom. Being part of so many family milestones is something we’re incredibly grateful for.
