Let me introduce myself to some of the new faces on here.

I’m Glenda, an award-winning celebrant specialising in Handfasting and Handtying ceremonies.

💕Handfasting isn’t something I add to a ceremony; it’s at the heart of what I do. I work with couples who are drawn to the meaning, symbolism and connection that comes with creating a Handfasting ceremony that feels natural, personal and truly their own.

💕A full Handfasting ceremony is made up of a collection of rituals, traditions and blessings drawn from the past, combined with modern elements that reflect each couple’s story. I often describe my work as drawing the past into the future, weaving ancient customs and symbolism into ceremonies that are relevant, meaningful and personal for today’s couples.

💕Over the years, I’ve also developed a few special touches of my own that have become known as “Glenda moments” within the ceremony.

💕At the heart of every ceremony I create is love. My approach is grounded in the belief that love should be celebrated in a way that feels authentic and true to the couple. It’s not about performance or fuss; it’s about creating something that feels right for you, whether that’s in nature, somewhere special, at Stonehenge, Avebury Circle, or even at home in your own garden.

After a wonderful break away in the sunshine of Egypt’s Red Sea, I’m now back home, refreshed, recharged, and ready for a busy summer of love, laughter, and beautiful ceremonies. ☀️💕

The next few weeks will be filled with final ceremony preparations, script polishing, printing, ribbon sorting, flower crowns, handfasting cords, and all those special little details that make each celebration unique.

Robin of Sherwood
BEHIND THE SCENES…

💚People see the ceremonies, the ribbons, the photographs and magical moments — but behind every beautiful event is hard work, teamwork and wonderful people who quietly make things happen.

💚I must give a huge and heartfelt thank you to Elizabeth Llewellyn, my right hand - lady! She who assisted me throughout the weekend. Not only with unloading and setting up once we arrived on festival site, but with the countless little things that make everything run smoothly.

💚Elizabeth was excellent company, full of good humour and laughter, and it was lovely having a companion alongside me throughout the festival. She worked incredibly hard supporting everything behind the scenes, and I am truly grateful for all her help and friendship over the weekend.

💚Saturday was very much ceremony, ceremony, ceremony — and in the heat too! But seeing couples celebrate love in such a special setting made every moment worthwhile.

💚In the evening we were able to relax and enjoy the Medieval Banquet — delicious food, wonderful company and a chance to sit together and enjoy the atmosphere after a busy day.

💚Sunday offered a little breathing space. We wandered around the medieval village, enjoyed everything the weekend had to offer and, rather unexpectedly, I discovered that despite an injured thumb joint, I could apparently pull a longbow! Having never tried archery before, I decided to have a go! — I was rather successful too, I might add.

💚We stayed for the final awards ceremony and watched Michael Praed auction his pair of original riding boots worn in Series 2 — which raised an eye-watering and rather astonishing amount of money.

💚From hard work and heat, to laughter, friendship and unforgettable moments — weekends like this remind me that behind every magical festival experience are wonderful people helping create it.

💚Handfastings at Robin of Sherwood Convention 2026 💚

“Bringing the Past into the Future”

💚This year’s Robin of Sherwood Convention saw five wonderful couples step forward to celebrate their relationships and love with Handfasting ceremonies held across the Bank Holiday weekend at St Pierre Country Park, Chepstow.

💚 Set within the hotel grounds, a beautiful ceremony space was created on a cool raised ledge overlooking the golf course, where a welcome breeze offered relief from the exceptionally hot temperatures.

💚Each ceremony was unique. Hands were bound with personally made braids/ ribbons or cords in the ancient Handfasting tradition, rings were blessed, promises spoken from the heart, and ceremonies concluded with couples jumping the Besom broom together — stepping forward side by side.

💚All the ceremonies varied slightly making each one wonderfully personal and heartfelt.

💚Without exception, every couple shared afterwards that their ceremony had met or exceeded expectations — something that means a great deal to me as a celebrant,

💚A special thank you to Del and Tony for organising the wonderful surprise congratulations cards presented during the final awards ceremony. Personally signed by cast and crew, these thoughtful keepsakes created additional lasting memories for every couple.

Robin of Sherwood - Hernes Arrows Convention 2026 💚

Nothing to celebrate here, other than the careful rituals carried by caring men.
Rituals of LOVE.💕💕

This photo is more than just a moment of washing horses. It shows one of the rare times when, after darkness, dust, and exhausting labor, these animals were given a chance to feel water, light, and relief.

Pit ponies were an essential part of mining life for nearly two centuries. Small, strong, and incredibly resilient, they pulled coal wagons through narrow tunnels where even humans struggled to move. By 1913, over 70,000 ponies were working underground in Britain. Many of them spent years below the surface, barely seeing daylight.

Coal dust was everywhere. It settled into their coats, filled their eyes, and entered their lungs. After long shifts, ponies were often led through shallow water channels or washed manually to remove the thick layers of black dust. This wasn’t just about cleanliness — it helped cool their bodies and gave them a brief moment of comfort after intense work.

The miners in this image stand beside them without ceremony. Tired, covered in grime, just coming off a shift. But in their actions, there is something deeply human. They are not just washing “work animals.” They are caring for partners who shared the same darkness.

And that’s the truth many don’t see — underground, these horses were more than tools. They were companions. They guided through tunnels, carried weight where machines couldn’t yet reach, and became part of daily survival. Miners often knew each pony by name. And when disasters struck, they suffered together. In tragedies like the Albion Colliery disaster of 1894, both men and horses lost their lives side by side.

This image is not about romanticizing the past. It’s about a harsh reality where both humans and animals lived at the edge of endurance.

But even there, care still existed.

Because after the coal, the darkness, and the exhaustion… someone still took the time to wash away the dust from those who silently carried the burden alongside them.
