Bertie Bus

Bertie Bus Bertie’s new life is starting at our glamping site at Wrantage near Taunton. Over the next year o Bertie is a 1975 Daimler Fleetline open top double decker bus.

He spent his early life in the Hanwell garage London on route E1 and E2. He moved to Maidstone & District in 1982. In 1994 he had a close call when he was bought by a breaker but was saved by Maybury for sightseeing in London. Next move was to Kingferry of Rainham again as sightseeing tours in 2006.
2008 is when he became Bertie and was painted white. He’s one of only four that can still move under his own power. Thanks to Nigel Eadon-Clarke for the history.

You may be aware from a previous post the we intend(ed) to convert Bertie to a glamping let.
We've had consultations with two separate planning advisors and they both said that it would be highly unlikely that we would get planning permission purely based on our location on The Somerset Levels.

So, it is with regret that, Bertie is up for sale again.

New running batteries fitted so starts on the button.
Documented history from day one. Only four of these left running.
Ideal food wagon.
I drove him the 20 miles or so to get him here without any issues.
Looking for offers around £8K so we can buy some newly felled timber that has been shipped halfway across Europe to build a new glamping let.
May look at a straight swap for something exciting that we may get away with!

Just fitted new batteries and done the antifreeze. I took him for a spin around the field but it’s a bit soggy.

I love getting the chance to go in the pit every year and have a good look at what's going on underneath.

PASSED! That's 7 years on the trot. Not bad for 42 years old.

Bertie is a 1975 Daimler Fleetline open top bus. Was a London tour bus for a good chunk of it's life. I have owned Bertie since 2009. When I bought the bus it had all it's seats and was being hired out for weddings. | eBay!

Following months of situations beyond our control and having to adopt the patience of several saints, Bertie Bus will again be available for sale very very soon (just have to put another 12 months MOT on it). We will be attending the Taunton Vintage Bus Running Day on Sunday 14th May if you want to come and view it. The rally is situated around Castle Green and the Bus Station but due to a large amount of entries they apparently have an overspill area too (not sure where).
