Another festival memory from the cloistered crypt: Rose Szafir, Dylan Perez and performed a programme of song, piano and guitar shaped by devotion, experimentation and the pursuit of the unknown. From Hildegard von Bingen and J.S. Bach to Olivier Messiaen and Josephine Foster, it was a recital that revelled in mysticism and artistic risk—charged with a sense of wonder and possibility 🎶🎹

Saturday of GCF2026 saw our sell-out screening of Universal’s landmark silent film 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘮𝘦 (1923), with a live improvised soundtrack by Richard Hills on Glasgow Cathedral’s mighty pipe organ. Unfolding beneath the soaring Gothic vaults, Quasimodo’s world of tolling bells, hidden towers and impossible longing felt remarkably at home in this shadowed space 🎬 🎹

Our next festival memory is 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘩 & 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥 with Scottish Ensemble and singers from —a journey through centuries of music, from J.S. Bach’s monumental 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦 and the luminescent music of Arvo Pärt to David Fennessy’s visceral and radiant reimagining of music by Hildegard von Bingen 🎻 🎶

With thanks to everyone who brought this extraordinary programme to life in the cathedral

Next up in our festival rewind: 𝘓𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘺—𝘚𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘭𝘦 with Manasamitra. Bringing together lullabies and stories shared by Glaswegians and visitors to the city with Carnatic vocals, environmental sound and layered electronics, this immersive installation-performance unfolded in the atmospheric surroundings of the Lower Church. Thank you so much to performers Supriya Nagarajan and Duncan Chapman for two enchanting performances 🎶 🌕 💤
