❤️ 100 years. Just imagine the stories…

In more than 170 funerals, I’ve had the privilege of helping families say goodbye to someone they love — from precious babies to those who have lived long and wonderful lives up to 99 years.

But now I’ve been given the opportunity to help a family celebrate the life of their 100-year-old mum.

My very first centenarian. ❤️

And honestly, I can’t wait.

Because behind those 100 years will be a lifetime of memories, love, laughter, heartache, achievements, family stories and moments that deserve to be remembered.

This is one of the things I love most about being a celebrant — sitting with families, listening to their stories and getting to know the person behind the years, before bringing all of that together to create a ceremony that is truly personal to them.

100 years of life. 100 years of stories.

What an absolute privilege it will be to help celebrate hers. 🕊️❤️

Remembering Terry Lewis (with the kind permission of his family).

Recently I had the privilege of leading the Celebration of Life for Terence “Terry” Lewis, former Labour MP for Worsley,
Terry lived a remarkable life spanning more than 90 years — rooted in his Salford heritage, family, public service, politics, Manchester United, history and music.

For 23 years he represented the people of Worsley in Parliament, following time as a local Councillor, earning a reputation for being forthright, independent and never afraid to speak his mind.

But behind the politician was a much-loved husband, father, friend and family man, with a wonderful sense of humour and a lifetime of memories.

The service reflected all those different sides of Terry, from “Imagine”, chosen by Terry himself, to “Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs”, celebrating his love of Salford.

It was a privilege to tell Terry’s story and celebrate a life of principle, service, loyalty and love — a life that touched so many. Thanks as always to Simon Howarth's Funeral Service and the crematorium staff at Overdale for their professionalism and support.

Rest peacefully, Terry.

❤️ Sometimes, it’s good to put the fun into fun-erals ❤️

Recently, I had the privilege of leading the service for a gentleman who was a passionate Manchester United fan — and what better way to honour someone than by bringing a little bit of that into his final farewell.

East Lancashire Crematorium was bursting at the seams, with family and friends, to celebrate a much-loved man and, of course, to show their support for the team he adored. ❤️

And naturally… we had to wear red! 🔴⚪️⚫️

Funerals don’t always have to be sombre from beginning to end. Sometimes there’s laughter, sometimes there are stories that make everyone smile, and sometimes there’s a colour that says everything about the person being remembered.

Because a funeral should be about the life that was lived, not just the loss.

And if that means a crematorium full of Manchester United red, then that’s exactly what I’ll do. ❤️

It was a privilege to help give him a farewell that was personal, meaningful and very definitely him. Thank you to the crematorium staff and it was a privilege to work with Sharon at Unsworths Funeral Directors, Bury, Manchester

This week I've had the privilege of leading six very different celebrations of life.

Six people.
Six families.
Six unique stories.

As I drove home after today's service, I found myself thinking about what they all had in common.

Not careers.
Not where they lived.
Not what they owned.

What united every one of those ceremonies was “love".

Love between husbands and wives who had shared decades together. Love between parents, children and grandchildren. Lifelong friendships. Favourite places. Favourite songs. Lttle traditions that become part of family life.

The stories that we remember are rarely about grand occasions. They're about ordinary moments that become extraordinary because they're shared with the people we love.

It's been my privilege, this week supported by amazing funeral directors Howarth's Funeral Service Unsworths Funeral Directors, Bury, Manchester and crematoria Howe Bridge Crematorium East Lancashire Crematorium, Radcliffe Rochdale Crematorium and Overdale to help families tell those stories and to create a ceremony that truly reflects the person they're remembering.

Because no two lives are ever the same, no two ceremonies should be either.

One of last weeks services was very special. Out of respect for the family I wont go into details but the following messages meant a lot.

"A big thank you again. Yesterday was absolutely perfect and I think every one who came commented on how beautiful the service was. It was so much more than we expected, and there wasn't anything we would have changed. We were both really anxious but we were in really safe hands with you. Its completely understandable why you come so highly recommended by Simon and we couldn't have asked for a better person."

I’m absolutely delighted to have been nominated for Celebrant of the Year at The Proper Northern Wedding Awards 2026. 💍

The Proper Northern Wedding Awards celebrate the grit, graft and greatness of the North’s wedding industry, shining a spotlight on the talented suppliers who help make love stories legendary.

To be recognised among so many wonderful wedding professionals is a real honour, and I’m incredibly grateful to whoever took the time to nominate me. ❤️

Being a celebrant means so much more than standing at the front of a ceremony — it’s about getting to know couples, telling their story, and creating a moment that feels completely personal and truly theirs.
