Sound check yesterday at the hall with the lovely Paul Kirsopp. Practising songs like Fog on the Tyne for our upcoming Remembrance Celebration on Sunday 8th November.
Fog on the Tyne you may ask? At a Remembrance?
This is all about local heroes...
My grandma was in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF's) during the Second World War. She was based on the War Balloon Site at Scotswood. Their mission, to guard Scotswood Bridge and the nearby Vickers and Armstrong's tank and am******on factories.
She always told us the story about the night the Germans bombed Blaydon, but missed Vickers because the Tyne was so twisty and difficult to follow.
Maybe it was a foggy night...☺️
Anyway, it sounds lovely when Paul sings it💕
