There’s been a lot of conversation about the changing wedding industry - seismic events in society which have filtered into the way we live our lives & how we celebrate marriages.
So what purpose do weddings serve in today’s world? Why do couples continue to create increasingly elaborate events? I think the answer is tied closely to why I continue to plan weddings, despite the long, anti-social hours, the pressure to ensure everything is perfect and If I am honest; the loneliness. Why do I still love this work? And despite trying to talk myself out of it, I really do love it.
Life is short. It is remembering to give the dog her tablets, to fill the dishwasher and empty the dishwasher and fill it again… to drink some damn water! It’s receiving news that breaks your heart and ordinary and chaotic and mundane - so when you have the chance to gather your whole tribe in one place & make memories together - and celebrate the very BEST thing in life - LOVE - you take it - and you try and make it wonderful for everyone.
I love speeches on a wedding day and the phrase I’ve heard over and over and over again, is how overwhelmingly magical it is to look around and see everyone you love in one place. How many times in life do you have that? That’s the secret sauce. That is luxury.
I heard an ‘educator’ deride the over-use of the word authentic by wedding vendors recently, but I implore any couple getting married in the coming year to sit down together, without TikTok and be completely honest about what’s important to them for their wedding.
Be true to who you are and don’t try to recreate someone else’s magic. Don’t chase an image you’ve seen, capturing someone else’s authentic moment - but work with a team you trust to create your own. Lead with love and don’t perform what you think a perfect wedding should be, but define it on your own terms.
Stepping intentionally into 2026 this is my North Star; to create beautiful events designed to enhance the experience, not at the expense of it. - Because the value of your wedding day can only ever be measured by the memories you make.
With love,
Lindsay xo
