Great opportunity - Creative Writing Workshop in Glenuig Inn with the author Linda Cracknell on Saturday 26th April. 11am – 4pm. £20 per person (lunch included).
Join us for a day of close observation and exploration in words of the Scottish Rainforest, here on this quiet stretch of coastline in West Lochaber.
Meet at Glenuig Inn, where tea & coffee will be available from 10.30am.
We will then spend about an hour outdoors, visiting the local oak and hazel wood which represents a fragment of Scotland’s native rainforest. Remember to bring walking boots, warm layers and waterproofs as well as a small notebook and pencil.
After lunch, provided by Glenuig Inn, Linda will take us through a variety of engaging creative writing exercises. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience.
Linda Cracknell is a writer of place, memory and motion who believes in being alert, observing, and writing from the particulars of each experience. Engaging bodily with her writing (both fiction and non-fiction), she is someone for whom getting mud on her boots, sleeping high up in the hills, or being slapped by salt water can all be part of the process. She is an experienced teacher of creative writing in many different settings, including a regular workshop in the Moroccan Sahara and a number of workshops which integrate walking and outdoor exploration with creative writing. Landscape, place and memory are key themes in her work.
She follows Susan Sontag’s advice to “Love words, agonize over sentences and pay attention to the world.”
Recent books include Doubling Back: Paths trodden in memory, Writing Landscape, and The Other Side of Stone.

Eilidh Shaw (fiddle and vocals) and Ross Martin (guitar) are probably best known for their work with two top traditional bands; Eilidh with The Poozies and Ross with Daimh, although some may recall the 2000s when they made up 2 fifths of the cult folk explosion that was Harem Scarem.
Between them they have been at the heart of the Scottish Music scene and over the last 20 years have toured the world both with their own groups and performing as guest artists with a vast array of top performers, clocking up over 100 album appearances with names as diverse as Gaelic Superstar Julie Fowlis, Alt-Country legend Bonnie Prince Billy, Classic Crooner Tony Christie and World Music/ Jazz Fusion impresario Arnaud Ciapolino.

Join us in Glenuig Hall on Friday 21st March for the wonderful MALIN LEWIS TRIO
Innovator, award winning, multi-instrumentalist Malin Lewis marries West coast groove with a newly invented, self-made bagpipe alongside stars Sally Simpson (Fiddle) and Ali Hutton (Guitar). Malin will perform tracks from their SAY Award nominated album Halocline as well as several brand new pieces inspired by the flora and fauna of the Highlands.
Malin's unique timbre is born from the deep connection that comes from making and composing for their own instrument. Their one of a kind two-octave Smallpipe creates a whole new world of sound, captivating audiences at every opportunity.
Having toured across the UK, Canada and Europe, Malin released their debut album 'Halocline' in May 2024 on Hudson Records. A Halocline is a visible layer that forms between salt and fresh water and is home to a unique microbial ecosystem. Halocline is a metaphor for Malin’s trans identity and living in a space in between; a beautiful space between a binary.
Inspired by the likes of Martyn Bennett, Duncan Chisholm and Sharron Shannon their music is as lively as it is thought provoking and sensitive. Recently Malin has been recording music for The Outrun starring Saoirse Ronan, composing for contemporary dance and theatre and has been learning the tradition of the extinct Finnish Bagpipes.

Delighted to announce that The John Martyn Project will be appearing in Glenuig Hall on Thursday 7th March. Bound to be a sellout, so do not dither!
One evening in 2018 at the Jazz Café, Camden, six artists came together in celebration of the music of John Martyn. It was an evening of deep connection, not just to John’s music but also with a unique community of John Martyn fans. That night saw the sparks of what was to become “The John Martyn Project” – an ongoing homage to a truly pioneering and unique musical soul.
Each bringing their own story and relationship to John’s music, they continue to keep the spirit of his music alive whilst connecting stories and insights from the crowds they play to.
