This is from a few days ago but I thought I’d better do something with the leftover flowers I’d picked from earlier in the week. It’s pretty much a bit of everything in the garden at the mo: calendulas, cosmos, ammi, hypericum berries, zinnias, antirrhinums, bunny’s ears, fountain grass, achillea, dahlias, cornflowers…

I have finally picked a bucket of cutting garden joy!

This year feels like it has been so slow and the plants have been reluctant to get going - not knowing whether summer is actually here. It’s not helped by being in a dip and having our own micro climate, which is usually a couple of weeks behind everyone else anyway! But hopefully this bucket heralds the start of woods hill cutting garden’s summer season.

These beauties will be available from Allan Martin Meats in Ashurst Wood from tomorrow. And jam jars and small posies are available just by getting in touch with me…

So things have been ticking along in the cutting garden, though I feel like I’m really behind in everything! Still a few things are starting to do their thing and I’m particularly loving the Euphorbia oblongata. It’s been in for a couple of years and has never looked so good - and I haven’t really done anything different!

Quick update! The greenhouse is beginning to burst at the seams! Lots of potting on going behind the scenes but this year I’ve had some seeds just not germinate- possibly because the seeds weren’t fresh out of the packet! My dahlias in the greenhouse are beginning to emerge, which is super exciting, though no idea where I’ll put them in the cutting garden but I’m sure I’ll find space 🤣.

The evening light on these tulips is šŸ‘! I’ll need to remind myself what they are, as my carefully written plant marker has completely washed off 😬. One thing is for sure, though, I need a much bigger plot if I am going to sell these beauties, as the 200 odd tulips I planted last autumn just don’t cut it!

Some of the tulips are about to pop! So excited. But they could do with some warm weather, which I’m hoping will give them a bit more height.

This dahlia was a cutting last year. I left it in the ground over winter but I’m now moving it, while I plan out the cutting garden, but look at the size of the tubers!!! That’s literally one season. And they all look in tip top condition, which is great. Let’s hope all the other tubers that have been over-wintered are in good condition too!
