โค๏ธ ONE LAST PARTYโฆ ๐ง๐ - THIS IS A LONG ONE
Well, here we go. Today I prepare for what will be my last ever mobile DJ gig.
I've been putting off writing this because, if I'm honest, it's something I'm struggling to come to terms with. DJing has never just been a job to me. It's been a massive part of my life since 1999, and walking away from something you love so much is bloody hard.
It all started back in 1999 at the world-famous Pipers nightclub in Folkestone. Little did I know back then just how much of a journey I was about to go on, or how many incredible memories I would make along the way.
Over the years, I've played pretty much every kind of event and celebration you can imagine, not just here in the UK but around the world. I've played alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, including Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Sonny Fodera, Sam Divine and many more.
I've performed at over 300 wedding receptions, more birthday parties than I could ever count, and played in more pubs, bars and nightclubs than I could possibly name.
I've been part of people's biggest celebrations, helped create memories, filled dancefloors, played the songs that brought people together and, hopefully, made a few people smile along the way.
And do you know what? I've loved every single minute of it.
Of course, there have been long nights, early mornings, heavy equipment, stressful setups and plenty of hard work behind the scenes that people never see. But that's all part of it, and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. (Excuse the pun)
Unfortunately, life sometimes has other plans.
My health has reached the point where my heart and body simply can't cope with the physical demands of mobile DJing anymore. As much as I want to carry on, I have to accept that pushing myself to keep doing it isn't worth the risk.
I've retired a few times over the years, only to find myself back behind the decks again. ๐ But this time, sadly, it's different. This time really does have to be the last.
I'm not going to pretend I'm not hurting. There's a huge part of me that's angry and upset that my health is forcing me to walk away from something I love doing so much. If it were down to passion alone, I'd carry on forever.
But today isn't just about saying goodbye. It's about saying THANK YOU.
Thank you to every single person who has booked me over the years. Every couple who trusted me with their wedding day, every family who invited me to celebrate a birthday, every landlord, venue, promoter and business that gave me an opportunity.
Thank you to every DJ I've worked alongside, every person I've shared a booth with, and every person who's danced to one of my sets, had a laugh with me, or supported me along the way.
And a massive thank you to everyone who has followed my journey, supported my work and helped make these 27 years what they have been. Whether you've known me since the Pipers days or only discovered me recently, I genuinely appreciate you.
You've given me a lifetime of memories, and I'll always be grateful for that.
But don't think you're getting rid of me that easily! ๐โค๏ธ
I'm not giving up DJing altogether. I'll continue with my radio shows, keep playing at walk-in gigs where the equipment is provided, and occasionally step in to cover a bar if they need a DJ.
The music isn't stopping. My love for house music isn't going anywhere. And neither is Timmy Links.
I'm simply closing the chapter on mobile DJing so I can look after myself and concentrate on the parts of this incredible journey I can still enjoy.
So, as I get ready to play my final mobile gig today, I'll be taking a moment to appreciate just how lucky I've been to do something I've loved for so many years.
1999 to 2026. What a journey. What a privilege. What a ride.
Tonight, I'll do what I've always done: get behind those decks, give it everything I've got, and make sure we have one hell of a party.
Because if there's one way I want to finish this chapter, it's with music playing, people dancing and a smile on my face.
Thank you for being part of my journey. Thank you for the memories. And thank you for allowing me to do what I love for 27 incredible years.
From the bottom of my heartโฆ THANK YOU. โค๏ธ๐ง
Much love,
Timmy Links โค๏ธ๐
