Ben Hixon / Stonie Blue - Ghoul5ive…now in stock at www.vinylpeople.co.uk

Texas-raised, NYC-based Ben Hixon continues to be one of deep house’s most essential new voices. His dusty, lo-fi take on the genre feels instinctive and raw but always carries serious emotion under the surface. After a fine outing announced already on NDTAL this month, he’s back on his own Dolfin with another crucial three tracker. ‘Purpouse (Jubilee)’ is a swinging sound with classic Midwestern vibes, ‘Look At Me’ spins out into high-paced juke and footwork drum patterns with eerie pads and ‘Read Between The Lines’ is a low-lit, low-key basement house groove with conscious mutterings adding serious depth. Another doozy from Hixon.

The Nathaniel X Project – The Resurface EP…now in stock at www.vinylpeople.co.uk

Miche’s Daybreakers imprint continues to delve into the archives and hard drives of original 90s deep house/garage-house fusionist James N Tinsley aka Nathaniel X. Previously, they delivered an EP of mid-90s tracks first released on cult label Music Station. Here, they pair two “lost” tracks from 1993 with two unheard 2025 jams. In the former category you’ll find ‘Scat Pack’, where improvised s**t vocalisations and Burrell Brothers style synth solos cluster around an organ-rich deep garage-house groove, and the more spacey, NYC-does-deep-house-jack of ‘Saturn Ring’. As for the 2025 cuts, they explore his classic early 90s sound. For proof, see the vibraphone solo-laden colour of ‘Kwayzar’ and the even deeper and dreamier musicality of ‘Just What You Want’.

BOLLA AFRIKAN BASEMENT / JOE CLAUSSELL – Downward Staircase EP….now in stock at www.vinylpeople.co.uk

Many of many aliases Joaquin ‘Joe’ Clausell has decided to return to tracks he released as Bolla (his childhood nickname, fact fans) and Afrikan Basement back in the mid 2010s. All of the cuts he’s remixed here were originally featured on the 2015 album Makussa, though in typical fashion he’s re-made them with the help of a lengthy cast-list of musicians and percussionists. He delivers two takes on ‘Downward Staircase’ - a languid, loose-limbed and solo-laden Latin house style ‘Sacred Rhythm’ version, and a deeper, more bass-heavy and stripped back ‘Drum dub’ take. Elsewhere, ‘Basement Seance’ is a spooky and spaced-out fusion of ambient chords, African rhythms and heady vocalisations, and ‘Kewlo’ is an organ-rich Afro-house percussion jam

**Now in stock** Sasha & Cortese – One / U Disappear.

1 of 500 hand numbered

Last year, UK dance music legend - and progressive house pioneer, of course - Sasha set about collaborating with a swathe of young and up-and-coming artists, blending his classic sounds and decades of experience with those of a new generation of talents. He continues in that vein here, joining forces with Plaza Recordings founders and giddy breaks/garage/house fusionists Cortese. ‘One’, the headline track here, is trippy and trance inducing, putting a 21st century spin on the kind of dreamy, melody-rich and trance-adjacent progressive house jams that Sasha became famous for as the 1990s progressed. ‘U Disappear’, meanwhile, takes a similar approach, albeit with rumbling speed garage bass, more sparkling electronic motifs and hazier female vocal samples

Opening the A-side is the Moodymann Edit of Kings of Tomorrow’s ‘Fall For You’, featuring the stunning vocals of long-time collaborator April Morgan, followed by Sandy’s grooving ‘Come Into My Room’ which features LT Brown. On the flip is Soul Vision’s ‘Don’t Stop’ with its atmospheric strings and gospel vocal. The release is closed with Kings Of Tomorrow featuring Elzi Hall ‘Show Me’, an atmospheric club cut that shows the versatility of this house legend.

XANADU / SWEET LADY / SOLO SOUND / TJ SWANN / CLOCKTOWER OF POWER - Back To The Old School - The Return Of Disco Rap Part Two (Dave ‘Love’ Lee Mixes)

Part Two of our ‘Back To The Old School’ series has arrived in full effect. Once again, Mr “Love” Lee updates classic disco-rap cuts for today’s dancefloors while preserving their original flavour and integrity. Kicking things off is Xanadu & Sweet Lady’s Jamaican version of ‘Rappers Delight’, where Dave refreshes the instantly recognisable percussion track into a captivating jazz-funk workout, perfectly complementing Sweet Lady’s luscious rapping and somehow making it even more danceable than ever.

Up next, Solo Sound ‘We Are The Crew (Called Solo Sound)’ delivers a swampy, lo-down slice of cosmic funk primed to rock any block party. On the flip is an alternate Philly flavoured take on TJ Swann’s 1981 jam ‘Get Fly’. This time Dave Lee re-tracks the MFSB backbone, putting his remixing prowess fully on display and landing squarely in the dancefloor sweet spot.

As a bonus, any wannabe disco rappers can hone their skills over the B2 Shepherds Delight (No Rapstrumental Mix)
