Today I’m going to talk about the elephant in the room, the conversation I hate having the most… the awkwardness of ‘How much will that be?’ 🤮🤮🤮
It makes me feel sick. Especially when it’s friends and family (Which most of you are! If I know you, I class you as a friend or family - Whether we speak regularly, went to primary school together or you’re Toms uncles friends cousin) 🩷
Over the past 5 years I’ve been finding my feet, learning, growing, practising new techniques, buying new props, materials etc etc 🌟
In those 5 years I’ve given so so much time and materials either for free or at discounted prices because I love you all and I just want everyone to have the best party or the best wedding or to give their babies the best birthday! 🎁 (I know birthdays aren’t cheap! Our boys are almost 18!)
But after 5 years I’d like to think I’m not a newbie anymore. I need to start actually making a living out of all the hard work I’ve put in (and it has been HARD work). I’m talking bleeding fingers from tying hundreds of balloons just to make 1 arch ‘But it’s just an arch’, Staying up until 1am to collect props from a venue in the snow, Waking my family up at 5am with my balloon pump, Hours of researching a theme I’ve never heard of so I get it spot on, sleepless nights wondering if it was good enough because I didn’t get a review… you get the drift… 🤦♀️
So when I get that dreaded message,
“I’d like this, How much is that going to cost?”
Please try and understand. It’s not just ‘a few balloons’ to me 🎈
I put my absolute heart and soul into every single piece I put together. I spend hours researching colours, themes, printing, cutting, blowing balloons up days before to test for air tightness and then buying more because they’ve failed me… To me it’s not just blowing up a few balloons, its hours and hours of work that you don’t see 🥰 (You just see me turn up, drop off and go) 😂
I don’t ever look online and buy a ready made pack for a tenner, chuck it up in an hour and sell it to you for triple the price. Every piece I do is unique (unless you send me a picture and say this is exactly what I want) 😂
Anyway so now we’ve got that awkwardness out of the way, please don’t ever be afraid to just say
‘sorry, I can’t really afford that’. Because I get it. Amazon/shein/Temu have a lot to answer for!
