Today marks the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week from 9th -15th October.

The week culminates at 7pm local time on Thursday 15th October. Candles will be lit around the world and left to burn for at least an hour to create a Wave of Light to honour the babies who have gone too soon.

Although you can create your own Wave of Light at home, The Oaks, Havant Crematorium, Bartons Road, Havant, is holding a Wave of Light Service on Thursday 15 October at 06:40 pm. Apply for tickets via https://stayhappening.com

Another effective way to personalise a funeral service or farewell ceremony is selecting a suitable poem, perhaps about a favourite hobby or pastime. It doesn’t have to be long to be effective. This short piece could be ideal for a keen fisherman.
A Fisherman’s Prayer

There are different ways to personalise a funeral service or farewell ceremony

Using colour can be a simple but effective way to honour your lost loved one with a more personal touch.
Here are some ideas:
• Funeral flowers using favourite colours
• Asking attendees to wear something in the chosen colour
• Incorporating the colour in the order of service as a background colour or as a coloured border
• If permitted, decorating the service venue with items in the chosen colour.
I have just added a new pink scarf to my collection to wear at services.

MYTH v REALITY
Funerals do not have to be formal. Here are some ideas for alternatives.
• There are several unique hearses available.
• You could have a shroud instead of a coffin, and use a car or other vehicle.
• A cardboard coffin is less expensive, eco-friendly and can be personalised.
• Convey your loved one in whatever way is right for you.
• Choose the venue you want, inside or outside.
• Choose how you want to honour your loved one.
• Informal refreshments outside -why not?

Friends play an important role in our lives. I have friends I have known for decades and those who are more recent. Those friendships are part of my life story. As a funeral celebrant, I have the privilege of learning how different friendships shaped the life story of others. Sometimes I have the honour of hearing beautiful heartfelt tributes at funerals, memorials and celebration of life services given in honour of a departed friend and the bonds they shared.
