Here’s Countisbury Hill with a bit of wind assistance last year.

Everyone on the North Coast 110 mile and 110km ultras, Exmoor Coast Ultra, and Exmoor Coast Challenge will get to enjoy this shortly after leaving Lynmouth.

Out on the North Devon and Exmoor Coast today with Malcolm Taylor. We recced the North Coast 110 route in and out of our new checkpoint in Barnstaple, the Valley of the Rocks CP, our new CP at Porlock Weir, and the “Rugged Coast Path” from Bossington.

North Coast 110 night section recce

This year, the North Coast event has moved into November. For most people on the 110 miler and everyone on the 110km, it will be dark from Barnstaple or soon after.

The first part of the route is simple to follow, but after that, it is a little more complicated. Easy enough to follow the South West Coast Path markers in daylight, especially if you are using a GPS watch or device as backup, but some previous knowledge of the route is helpful here at night.

Our recce will cover the section between Braunton Burrows and Combe Martin, a distance of about 40km.

6 weeks to go until the North Coast 110, Hartland Coast Ultra, Exmoor Coast Ultra, and Exmoor Coast Challenge!

Entries will close in 4 weeks time unless we reach maximum numbers sooner.

This year, we have moved the event to early November. For most people on the 110 miler, and everyone on the 110km, it will be dark from Barnstaple or soon after.

We are looking at offering a recce run along the section of coast path between Braunton Burrows and Combe Martin. A distance of about 40km. Although navigating this section is relatively straightforward in daylight, some previous experience here could be useful at night.

Provisional date is Saturday 24th October. Transport available from Exeter area, or just return from Combe Martin to Braunton Burrows.
