The newly-formed Priory Players present their first production 'Monks and Mortality' in which they celebrate the way Medieval folk expressed their opinions and understanding of Life and Mortality. In this production, there are ancient chants, interesting information about monks and their lives, nuns, saints and more...
There are poems old and new, including some by Sir Walter Raleigh, and some including a speech choir, plus colourful images splashed across the ancient wall of the Priory's Great Hall.
Come and support the Priory, and enjoy the refreshments that are available.

Happy St Nicholas Day!

December 6th marks St Nicholas Day - the saint who the Priory is named after. Nicholas of Myra was a Bishop in Anatolia (now in modern-day Türkiye) and died on December 6th 346. He is the patron saint of sailors, children, archers and toymakers among others.

Some of the stories and legends about St Nicholas revolve around secret gift-giving, much like another famous Saint Nick!

In 1087 (the same year that the Priory was founded) the tomb of St Nicholas was moved from Myra to Bari in Italy, to the Basilica di San Nicola. It is thought this is why the Benedictine monks named the Priory in his honour.
