🌸 Another sad day for our local high street… 🌸
Yesterday, we heard the news that Fladbury Flowers will be closing its doors in November after 20 years. I’d like to wish the whole team all the very best for the future. ❤️
But it got me thinking…
Morrisons has closed its in-store florists here, Louise’s has been bought by new owners, and Silver Birch is also moving. I never thought I’d write a post naming so many other local florists, but here we are!
And this is the bit I really want you to take away from this post: we need to support our local independent businesses, now more than ever.
Because if we lose our local florists, where will you go when you need those special anniversary roses? 🌹 That last-minute birthday bouquet (we’ve all been there! 😂), the wedding buttonhole, or those final farewell flowers for a loved one!
These aren’t just bunches of flowers. They’re carefully chosen, thoughtfully arranged and made with love, care and understanding.
💐 “But supermarket flowers are cheaper!”
I hear you! And yes, the price tag might look more attractive. But supermarkets sell flowers as a loss leader to get you through the doors. After all, you rarely go in for flowers and come out with just flowers, do you? There’s always milk, bread, chocolate… and somehow £50 later, you’re home! 😂
At your local florist, you can choose individual stems, discover unusual varieties, flowers last longer. You’re buying expertise, creativity, quality, and a personal service, not simply a bunch of flowers wrapped in plastic.
And sometimes, a good old-fashioned chat comes with it too. Something that seems to be disappearing from our shopping experience as everything becomes more automated!
🌿 So, please, think local.
The next time you’re tempted to grab a bunch of flowers while doing your supermarket shop, consider popping into your local florist instead, if you can.
And while we’re talking about supporting local, if you’re able to pay with cash, that can help independent businesses too, by avoiding card processing fees. Every little really does help!
This applies to all our independent shops, not just florists. Behind every little shopfront is a real person, a family, a dream and a business trying its best to survive.

I appreciate every single customer who walks through my door, whether you’re buying one individual flower, a piece of cellophane, a block of Oasis, a beautiful bouquet or a final tribute for someone you love.
No purchase is too small, and every bit of support means more than you probably realise.
Being a small business owner comes with plenty of challenges, and we certainly don’t need to make it any harder for ourselves by losing the very customers who keep us going.
Please support your local florists. Please support your local independents. Because once they’re gone, we can’t simply pop down the high street and get them back.
Let’s keep our high streets blooming, one flower (and one small purchase) at a time. I'll see you all when I get back. 🌸🌼x
