A pretty wonderful place to begin the rest of your life.

St John the Baptist Church has been welcoming people for centuries.

And yet, on a wedding day, it still manages to feel deeply personal.

Perhaps it’s the setting.
Perhaps it’s the anticipation.

Or perhaps it’s simply knowing what’s about to happen once you step through the door.

A beautiful day, a wonderful crowd, and two people very clearly meant for one another.

Sherene and Dai. Thank you for letting us share some of the special moments from your celebration.

We loved every second of it 🤍

Ten years ago this month, something rather ridiculous happened at Elmore.

Although, truthfully, the story had started years earlier.

Back in 2008, before Elmore was a wedding and events venue, a little thing called the Elmore Summer Party took place. It was loud enough to attract complaints from villages 10 miles away and resulted in a memorable letter informing Anselm that he clearly had little regard for anyone else’s need for sleep.

His response wasn’t to stop throwing parties.
His response was to build a soundproof room.
And so, the Gillyflower was born.

Fast forward to 2016 and it was time to test the theory properly.
That year’s Elmore Summer Party, fondly known as ESP, was called All At Sea.

Guests arrived to find themselves part of a theatrical adventure centred around an eccentric aristocrat who had grown tired of the world and decided there was only one thing left to do - sail off into the sunset.

Performers appeared from windows. Music drifted through the grounds. Characters and guests alike, all in Victorian dress.

Then came the grand departure.

The aristocrat’s vessel of choice was a submarine.

And that submarine was the Gillyflower.

Fish swam across its exterior as guests transformed into a sea of steampunk attire, ready for whatever happened next.
And what happened next was one hell of a party.

The dancefloor filled. The music got louder. The night took on a life of its own.

Absurd. Over the top. Entirely unnecessary but totally necessary at the same time.

Exactly as it was intended to be.

A room built because of a noise complaint proving exactly why it had been built in the first place.

And now we want to know - is it time for another ESP…

This unpredictable weather has had us thinking about winter weddings…

As much as we love summer, a week or so of grey skies and rain is a good reminder that every season has something to offer.

Winter, especially, has a way of creating an atmosphere all of its own.

Firelight.
Candlelit dinners.
Guests arriving from the cold and settling in properly for the evening.

Everything feels a little more enclosed, a little more intimate.
Less about making the most of the weather, and more about creating warmth wherever you look.

How to make the most of an outdoor summer drinks reception…

The best summer drinks receptions tend to feel effortless.

A drink never far from hand.
Comfortable places to sit and settle into.
Music setting the tone without ever taking over the conversation.
And service that feels attentive without being intrusive - making sure glasses stay topped up and everyone has what they need without having to ask for it.

When all of those things come together, the atmosphere takes care of itself.

People relax, the energy builds naturally, and the whole afternoon settles into exactly the kind of celebration it should be.

Sustainability was never added here as a selling point…

Long before it became part of marketing language, it was already shaping decisions here.

The Gillyflower built using materials from the estate itself.
Woodland managed to fuel the biomass system that heats the house.
Food being grown or sourced either on site or on our doorstep.
Wildflower meadows and longer grasses allowed to return naturally across the land.

Not because it looked good in a brochure.
But because it felt like the right way to care for a place that’s been here for generations.

And that’s still very much the approach now.

Less about grand statements.
More about making thoughtful decisions over time - and creating celebrations that feel connected to the landscape around them rather than separate from it.

Two very different wedding suites…

For years, the Master Suite was the obvious choice.
Traditional, grand, full of history - the kind of room that feels deeply connected to the house itself. And before the additional bedrooms were renovated in 2017, it was where almost every couple stayed on the night of their wedding.

Then came the Smoking Room.
Lighter and a little more modern in feel. And almost immediately, couples started gravitating towards it instead.

Now, it tends to become a very divided decision when couples visit.

Some are drawn to the character and scale of the Master Suite.
Others love the calmer, more contemporary feel of the Smoking Room.

Two completely different atmospheres, both part of the same house, and all yours throughout your time with us. Which room did you or would you choose?

Not everything that happens in the Gillyflower involves a dancefloor.

On Tuesday mornings, the space takes on a rather different atmosphere.

A little slower.
A little quieter.
A chance to move, breathe and spend an hour focused on nothing much beyond the present moment.

A calm start to the day, surrounded by the landscape and away from the usual distractions.

From bright June sunlight to a packed dance floor…

One of the nicest things about summer celebrations is how naturally the whole day unfolds.

Guests gathering outside in the sunshine.
Drinks turning into dinner.
Sunset arriving quietly in the background while everyone settles into the evening.

And then later, everything changing pace completely once the music starts.
A full day that never really feels rushed - just one moment gradually leading into the next.

We have just a couple of Saturdays in Summer 2027 remaining - if it’s something you’ve been thinking about, now feels like a good time to explore it a little further.

There’s a reason everything slows down at this time of day…

Summer evenings tend to stretch things out a little here.
Drinks lasting longer than expected.
People lingering outside.
Conversations continuing as the light slowly changes around them.

By golden hour, everything feels softer.
The gardens settle into the evening, candles begin to appear, and the whole atmosphere changes without anyone really noticing it happen.

It’s often the point in the day where people stop thinking about timelines and simply enjoy being there.
