Big Country to headline Banff Castle Rocks on Saturday 22 August
It is shaping up to be a summer to remember for live music fans in Aberdeenshire. Following the buzz around the newly announced Live in Inverurie event, organisers confirm the return of Banff Castle Rocks for its third year on Saturday 22 August, with a major Scottish headliner leading the charge.

Legendary rock band Big Country will headline the 2026 event, bringing their unmistakable "tartan" guitar sound back to the North East. Rising to global fame in the 1980s with their debut album The Crossing, they delivered hits including 'In a Big Country', 'Fields of Fire', and 'Chance'. They have sold over 10 million records worldwide, securing four UK Top 10 hits and fifteen Top 40 singles.

They will be joined by a strong supporting line-up: the acclaimed Complete Stone Roses, Ocean Cover Scene, and The Freddie & Queen Experience โ€“ widely regarded as one of the UK's leading Queen & Freddie Mercury tribute acts. Fans can also enjoy performances celebrating the music of Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, Madonna, and Whitney Houston, offering something for every music taste and promising a full day of live music at one of Scotland's most scenic venues.

Set against the stunning coastal backdrop of Banff Castle, overlooking the Moray Firth, the festival follows 2025's sold-out show headlined by The Bay City Rollers.

Festival organiser Russell Aitchison said: "We're delighted to have secured Big Country for Banff. Over the last two years we've showcased great Scottish headliners, and we're proud to continue that with a truly legendary band. In challenging times, we're committed to keeping this accessible โ€“ reasonable ticket prices, affordable drinks, and top-quality entertainment. Great live music shouldn't be out of reach. We can't wait to welcome the crowds back to Banff Castle for another memorable event."

Marketing Director Mark Lenthall added: "There's a real buzz around live music in Aberdeenshire right now. After the response to Live in Inverurie, it feels like we're building something special across the region. Banff Castle Rocks has quickly found its place in the calendar, and 2026 promises another standout line-up for the fans."

Banff Castle Rocks 2026 is supported by main sponsors The Spotty Bag Shop and Deveron Direct. Des Cheyne and Kenneth West, Directors of Deveron Direct, said: "We're delighted to support Banff Castle Rocks again. Events like this bring people to Banff and the surrounding area and showcase what Aberdeenshire has to offer. Keeping ticket prices accessible while attracting top-quality acts is something we're proud to be part of."

Banff Castle Rocks 2026 takes place on Saturday 22 August.

Tickets go on sale at 8am on Wednesday 1 April via Skiddle:

A Bigger Stage, A Bigger Show โ€“ Banff Castle Rocks is Back for 2025
Following a sell-out debut, Banff Castle Rocks is back for 2025, bigger and better. Due to overwhelming demand, Scottish pop legends Bay City Rollers will return to headline the Deveron Direct Main Stage on Saturday, 30 August, after their incredible performance at last yearโ€™s event left fans calling for more.
In a major coup for the festival, Banff's own Sandi Thom returns to her roots. The chart-topping star behind "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker" will perform a special homecoming set that promises to be the emotional highlight of the day.
Also on the bill is one of the North of Scotlandโ€™s most popular acts, Scotty & The Skyhooks. The band, who recently celebrated their 40th birthday, will bring their energetic style to the North East. Adding to the nostalgia and energy of the day, Banff Castle Rocks 2025 will feature top Fleetwood Mac tribute band MacFleet, plus tributes to The Proclaimers and Robbie Williams, as well as local support acts. A second stage with DJs playing 90s and 00s classics will also be announced shortly.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Banff Castle, overlooking the sea, the festival again promises an unforgettable experience for music lovers. And this year, organisers are expanding the event. The main stage is being moved to a larger area, ensuring better views and improved comfort for fans. To enhance the festival atmosphere, a new, larger marquee, supported by Banffโ€™s iconic Spotty Bag Shop, will provide more space for guests to relax and enjoy the event.
โ€œWe are thrilled to bring Banff Castle Rocks back for 2025,โ€ said Festival Organiser Russell Aitchison. โ€œThe response from last yearโ€™s event was phenomenal, and weโ€™ve listened to our audience to make this yearโ€™s festival even better. With a larger main stage area and an incredible lineup, weโ€™re set for another unforgettable day of live music.โ€
Marketing Director Mark Lenthall added โ€œSo many people wanted to see the Bay City Rollers back, and weโ€™ve delivered. And having Sandi perform in her hometown is something special. This isn't just another gig for her - it's a homecoming celebration that means the world to so many people in Banff.โ€
