Big Country to headline Banff Castle Rocks on Saturday 22 August
It is shaping up to be a summer to remember for live music fans in Aberdeenshire. Following the buzz around the newly announced Live in Inverurie event, organisers confirm the return of Banff Castle Rocks for its third year on Saturday 22 August, with a major Scottish headliner leading the charge.
Legendary rock band Big Country will headline the 2026 event, bringing their unmistakable "tartan" guitar sound back to the North East. Rising to global fame in the 1980s with their debut album The Crossing, they delivered hits including 'In a Big Country', 'Fields of Fire', and 'Chance'. They have sold over 10 million records worldwide, securing four UK Top 10 hits and fifteen Top 40 singles.
They will be joined by a strong supporting line-up: the acclaimed Complete Stone Roses, Ocean Cover Scene, and The Freddie & Queen Experience β widely regarded as one of the UK's leading Queen & Freddie Mercury tribute acts. Fans can also enjoy performances celebrating the music of Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, Madonna, and Whitney Houston, offering something for every music taste and promising a full day of live music at one of Scotland's most scenic venues.
Set against the stunning coastal backdrop of Banff Castle, overlooking the Moray Firth, the festival follows 2025's sold-out show headlined by The Bay City Rollers.
Festival organiser Russell Aitchison said: "We're delighted to have secured Big Country for Banff. Over the last two years we've showcased great Scottish headliners, and we're proud to continue that with a truly legendary band. In challenging times, we're committed to keeping this accessible β reasonable ticket prices, affordable drinks, and top-quality entertainment. Great live music shouldn't be out of reach. We can't wait to welcome the crowds back to Banff Castle for another memorable event."
Marketing Director Mark Lenthall added: "There's a real buzz around live music in Aberdeenshire right now. After the response to Live in Inverurie, it feels like we're building something special across the region. Banff Castle Rocks has quickly found its place in the calendar, and 2026 promises another standout line-up for the fans."
Banff Castle Rocks 2026 is supported by main sponsors The Spotty Bag Shop and Deveron Direct. Des Cheyne and Kenneth West, Directors of Deveron Direct, said: "We're delighted to support Banff Castle Rocks again. Events like this bring people to Banff and the surrounding area and showcase what Aberdeenshire has to offer. Keeping ticket prices accessible while attracting top-quality acts is something we're proud to be part of."
Banff Castle Rocks 2026 takes place on Saturday 22 August.
