Four weddings. Seven days.🥂🍾

Running on coffee, canapés, cake, and pure joy as I head out for wedding #4 this week!

Four completely different couples, four incredible love stories, and me with the absolute best seat in the house. I honestly still pinch myself that I get to play a small part in such an important day in people’s lives. 🥰

(I can’t wait to share photos of the newlyweds over the last couple of months, which I’ll do as soon as I’ve caught my breath! 📸😊)

Tomorrow, the whirlwind continues on home ground at the Laichmoray Hotel Wedding Show right here in Moray!

A little wedding debate…

You’re only allowed to choose one…

💕 The ceremony.
💃 The party.

Which is it?

I’ll admit I’m biased…

One of my favourite compliments to hear from guests afterwards is,
“I’ve never actually enjoyed a wedding ceremony before.”

That makes me smile every single time.

Now be honest…

What’s your answer?

I’m fully prepared to lose this battle… but I’m hoping a few of you will prove me wrong. 😂👇

These days there are an increasing number of people who would describe themselves as "spiritual, but not religious" and that is exactly where OBS meets the world, considering all the different things that might be meant by that, and trying to make sure that everyone in that category (as well as those of a firm religious belief at one end of the scale and a firm humanist belief at the other) , can still have a full and meaningful part in the social and cultural life of our communities.

But right back at the basics, we need to think about what we mean by spirituality, what is anyway, and how does that affect how people engage with society and how does it affect their lives.

So this Sunday, our next online discussion group is going to considering these questions.

Right… I need your opinion.

When it comes to your wedding vows, which would you choose?
🤍 Traditional vows.
🤍 Or writing your own.

I’ve heard some incredibly beautiful versions of both over the years and, honestly, I couldn’t choose a favourite.

Traditional vows have stood the test of time for a reason.

But there’s something really special about hearing someone promise forever in words they’ve written just for the person they’re about to marry.

The best part?

There isn’t a right answer.

Just the one that feels right for the two of you.

“Can you legally marry us?”

Yes… I can. 😊 (And Roisean & Liam’s beautiful legal wedding took place at the stunning King’s College Chapel in Aberdeen. 🥰)

I’ve seen a bit of confusion recently, so here’s the simple version…

Not every celebrant in Scotland is legally authorised to marry you. Some conduct beautiful symbolic ceremonies, but you’ll also need a separate legal ceremony.

I can legally marry you.

As an authorised Marriage Celebrant with Open Beliefs Scotland, I conduct your beautiful, personal and entirely legal wedding ceremony. One ceremony. One day. One “I do.” 🤍

I’m often asked if I’m a Humanist celebrant…

Nope!

I’m an Agnostic and Open Belief celebrant with Open Beliefs Scotland, which means your ceremony can be completely non-religious, or it can include prayers, blessings, hymns or spiritual elements if that’s important to you. Your ceremony is about your beliefs - not mine.

After 14 years and more than 2,500 life ceremonies, I’ve learned one thing…

No two couples, individuals or families are ever the same, and that’s exactly how it should be.

Can we all agree that one of the first questions people ask engaged couples is…

“So… how did you two meet?”

And I never get tired of hearing the answers.

Childhood sweethearts.
Work colleagues.
A random night out that nearly didn’t happen.
Dating apps.
A chance meeting because someone missed a train.

Then there are my favourites…

The couples who begin with, “Our story’s actually quite boring.”

It never is. 😂

So, tell me…
How did you meet your favourite person?

Right then…

Imagine your wedding budget was unlimited…

But there was one catch.

You could only splurge on one thing. 💷

What would it be?
📸 The photographer
🍽 Incredible food
🎶 Amazing entertainment
🏰 Your dream venue
✈️ The honeymoon
💍 Or something else entirely?

Here’s something I’ve noticed after 14 years…

Nobody has ever got in touch afterwards and said,

“Laura… those chair covers changed our lives.” 😂

But they do talk about the moments they remember.

So… what’s the one thing you’d never regret spending the extra money on?
